Yesterday and today, Taiwan prosecuted perpetrators, or put them on wanted list if they are not in Taiwan, who executed transnational repression against critics of China. A common thread: using Hong Kong proxies who are not directly linked to Chinese or Hong Kong governments
Taiwan prosecutors have indicted a Hong Kong gang member for an attack on Yaita Akio, a Japanese-Taiwanese China expert and think tank founder. Yaita was punched in the face at a Taichung hotel in July after giving a talk on regional security. Authorities call it a case of Chinese transnational repression.

💥Boom - it's ready, the joint Franco-German paper / letter to VDL on China. Berlin & Paris - previously at polar opposite ends of the scale on China policy - now want a kill switch to cut China out of the EU market. This would have been unfathomable a few short months ago 🤯

US arrests Chinese agent for spying on Taiwan President Lai Ching-te’s son.
We just arrested a Chinese foreign agent at LAX attempting to depart for China. Wanying Zhang, aka “Heather,” 34, of Irvine, was arrested today by @FBILosAngeles on a federal complaint charging her with acting as an unregistered agent of the People’s Republic of China. According to the affidavit, Zhang traveled to Seattle in 2025 and, at the direction of PRC officials, surveilled a close relative of a Taiwanese government official, sending photos, videos, and license plate information to those officials. She coordinated the trip with an associate and used tradecraft to avoid detection. She never notified the Attorney General she was acting for a foreign government, a federal offense. She will appear in federal court in Los Angeles tomorrow for her initial appearance. Defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Interesting choice of music at the US banquet for the Chinese delegation: One Day More from Les Misérables - a song about a coming uprising…
白宫晚宴上的这一幕,《悲惨世界》经典旋律。不能不联想到背后有安排曲目的意味深长…… 《Do You Hear the People Sing?》中文常译“你听见人民在歌唱”或港版填词“问谁未发声”,在2014雨伞运动和2019反修例示威中被大量传唱,大陆主流流媒体一度下架英文原曲。

New for @IndexCensorship: Since late August, people in Hong Kong have found they were unable to access @thecfhk website. HK's Security Bureau said I should ask ISPs and not them - the same response given when I reported HK blocking a website in 2024. indexoncensorship.org/2026/0…

NEW: Jimmy Lai’s daughter Claire shares with @realDailyWire that she has been diagnosed with cancer. Claire has been a fierce advocate for her father’s release but will have to take a step back as she goes through treatment. “This summer I received a cancer diagnosis and will be undergoing treatment in the UK,” she shares. “I am optimistic about the outcome but will be unable to travel and attend functions for the duration. I am endlessly grateful for my parents’ example of perseverance. Our Christian faith teaches--and my father bears witness--that suffering can be redemptive. Mine is but a fraction of my father’s, but I hope to bear it as a grace as well as he has. I deeply wish that dad was here, and pray that he will be released soon. I am so very grateful to everyone who continues to work toward securing his freedom.”
