.@udanium's "Rise of the Meta-Designer" is the most important thing I've read about design for quite a while. interactions.acm.org/archive… If we don't want design reduced to mechanistic delivery, we need to widen the aperture with a holistic and systems-oriented practice.

Having been in the industry for 20+ years, the biggest change I’ve seen is that design teams are now more over-extended across more products & required to move faster in favor delivery of mediocre work at the expense of even basic quality. This does not produce great products.

When most companies hire "designers," it is to execute a previous decision, not to change it. Most businesses don't want designers to think. Perhaps this is why so many UX teams are prohibited from speaking with actual users.
