ALT The Sutherland Diamonds The necklace from the Affair of the Diamond Necklace was taken to England during the turmoil surrounding the scandal. It is believed to be, almost certainly, the very diamond in question. Said to have originated from Golconda in India, the stone possesses the finest clarity and brilliance, with the central gem alone weighing approximately 15 carats. Inherited by successive Duchesses of Sutherland, it was worn in various redesigned forms at coronation ceremonies for a century, from the reign of Queen Victoria through the era of King George VI.
