This research is real, but this isn't breaking news. Microsoft announced the fix on Sept 8. No attacks have been reported, and it only works if a bad app is already on your phone. Get version 6.2606.4246 or later. Why not contextualize the risk better?

Are you effin kidding me. This is about as big an attack vector as it gets against 2FA.
We got Microsoft Authenticator to hand over account tokens to a fake Teams app. The app needed zero Android permissions. It just claimed to be Teams, and Authenticator never checked who was actually asking. The result: full delegated access to mailbox, files, and calendar through Microsoft Graph. GMO Internet Group CEO Masatoshi Kumagai says that the internet itself is on the verge of collapse due to missuse of AI, and frames this event as a national crisis.
A cloud VPS service from Japan's massive GMO Internet Group used by foreign-exchange traders has been hacked. Attackers breached the servers, stole customer credentials, and executed balance-destroying trades across over 70 brokerages. GMO has asked government agencies for help.

PSA for macOS users: 1. Apple’s supplied SSL certificate bundle at /etc/ssl/cert.pem still trusts certificates attackers can forge using compromised eMudhra keys. 2. I confirmed this on macOS 26.7.1 and 27.0.1 using Apple’s built-in curl and Git. 3. An attacker intercepting connections from tools using this bundle could replace downloads with malware. With commands like curl … | sh, that malware would execute immediately. 4. Removing the roots that authorize those certificates blocks the tested chains. Both OS updates restored roots I’d previously removed, requiring me to remove them again. 4. I’ve submitted the findings to Apple’s security team and am awaiting their response. In the meantime, you can apply a temporary fix as outlined below. 5. To check and fix your machine, give an agent like ChatGPT/Codex or Claude Code the following prompt: “Independently verify whether Apple’s /etc/ssl/cert.pem still permits trust in certificates signed with compromised eMudhra keys. If so, back it up and remove the roots enabling that trust, identified by verified SPKI fingerprints. Confirm Apple’s built-in curl and Git reject those chains while ordinary HTTPS still works. Preserve rollback and never disable TLS verification.” Note that removing these roots can also block legitimate sites. This is a temporary mitigation, not a substitute for a fix from Apple. I’ll share the script I used in a follow-up post if you’d prefer to use that directly.
PSA for Codex CLI users: 1. Codex 0.163.0’s release lockfile pins rustls-webpki 0.103.15 and root bundles that can still trust compromised eMudhra certificates. 2. An attacker intercepting your connection could impersonate a server, steal sensitive data, or alter responses, potentially tricking Codex into running malicious commands. 3. Codex 0.164.0, released October 23 at 12:48 a.m. ET, updates those dependencies to fixed versions. 4. To check your codex version run "codex --version". It should be at least 0.164.0. 5. To patch the vulnerability, run "codex update". 6. Apps that bundle their own Codex copy must also be checked.

‼️ An encrypted USB drive from SecZure has a backdoor that opens its files without the user's password. Two built-in accounts with fixed passwords decrypt them, Binary Ninja's Xusheng Li found. OpenAI's Codex broke Netac's FileLock in 7 minutes and saw it logging passwords.

There are some open-source reps / software, still running on old node.js - including one of the most widely used VPNs - supporting comms from some really info-restricted places on Earth. Just hope someone wakes 'em the f' up.
If you're running Node.js, update it ASAP. Don't panic, but a critical vulnerability was just discovered in Brotli, a compression technology used across the web. Update Node.js and Brotli dependencies, redeploy your apps, and check for unusual crashes. Not everyone is affected, but don't put off patching.

In the meanwhile, what you can do is to disable admin port for the same VPN. If you know what this means, you know what to do.

‼️ Alert - Critical Brotli flaw behind #Node2Shell RCE goes far beyond Node.js. Bun, Python Brotli packages, Envoy, Istio and other widely used software are also affected by the same CVE-2026-111497 memory-corruption vulnerability. Read full details ↓ thehackernews.com/2026/10/br…

A modern tv is basically an always on listening and fingerprinting device in every home.
‼️ The tracking server for VIDAA smart TVs, the system on Hisense sets, needed no login. In 3 hours, Northeastern researchers pulled 57M+ records of what 1M+ TVs were watching, sorted into categories like religion and politics.

update: the facial recognition code is used by samsung tv's and returns bounded boxes around faces.
Replying to @log4j
code for facial recognition within the content was also found, investigating if this is used by their background services or if it's stock opencv code. scans for bounding boxes in apps to track your usage can load new modules over time to expand coverage. this is like 1 out of 50 things so far, and we're only just getting started.

WTF, $3000 Samsung TV has an always-on mic, automatic content recognition, geo tracking, network mapping, and ships your data to Samsung + 400 partners. Bro Rooted a brand-new 2025 Samsung TV after noticing absurdly targeted ads. Firmware was locked down, so zero-days it was. Got a root shell. then found: always-on voice service, ACR, geo, full telemetry pipeline, and four separate DRM systems. This isn’t a bug, It’s the product bro.
i own a relatively new (2025) samsung tv. i kept getting weirdly targeted ads. i tried reversing the firmware but it was aes encrypted and no keys unless tear it apart and do uart/jtag magic. zero days it is. root shell on new samsung TVs! discovered PRIVACY HORROR. write up?

Some stats on #php2shell. In the 10 hours before it was publicly announced, across the @Cloudflare network we saw thousands of attempts to exploit it. That jumped to tens of thousands in the 45 minutes post announcement, hundreds of thousands within 2 hours, and millions now.
