Happy 171st birthday to us! 🥳 🎂 To celebrate, our fantastic librarian gathered 171 items from the local church histories in our collection. We're thankful to have spent the past 171 years serving Congregational churches across the country and excited to begin another year.

I started the morning looking through a collection of papers which recently came to ⁦@CongreLib⁩ of a Christian minister who served in NC, GA, and AL from 1940-90s. Great examples of Southern Christianity on display, like this ad for a competing evangelist in the community.

Great program this afternoon for churches thinking about what materials they need to keep for posterity and what can be tossed. @UnitedChurch @CCCCUSA
The next event in our Church Stewardship Initiative is one week from today, April 17th at 1 pm EDT. We hope to see you there (virtually speaking, of course) to learn about creating a critical item for your church's archive: a retention schedule.

Not all church records are historic. But making decisions about handling them is critical. Join the CLA's archivists for the next program in our Church Stewardship Initiative on creating a retention schedule to explain how your church's records should be preserved in the future.
