🚹Wes Streeting only talked about how the UK needs to prepare for food shortages and cyber attacks, because I asked him when the government was going to start its national conversation on defence during a question and answer session at the opening of a gun hall. If the defence secretary hadn’t given such a meaningful reply (thank you @wesstreeting), then no government minister would have spoken out publicly about this topic on the day that the Cabinet Office finally published its new advice on being ready for emergencies. This long-awaited “Be Ready” moment was meant to be a really important signal - launching a three year campaign to shift the whole of our society to a footing that is more resilient to any kind of shock. Instead, no government minister had been scheduled to speak publicly today specifically to launch this vital piece of work. It was just going to be a website update and a written statement to Parliament. This does not send the signal that getting the UK ready for any potential disaster - up to and including war - is a top priority for our new prime minister

Kieran Trippier on his time at Wolves so far đŸ—Łïž #WWFC “I’m really enjoying it.” “I’ve loved it ever since I’ve arrived here. Good manager, good players, good to be here.” “Wolves is a massive club, I wasn’t frightened to go down to the Championship.” “He [Peixoto] is very good, he’s very demanding, with me coming in as well I’m sure he will demand a lot from me which I can handle, I’ll help out as much as I can.” “I believe that we can get promoted, I’m not saying that in an arrogant way, I just believe in my teammates.” @SkyFootball

Trump’s diesel deal with Putin makes no sense (it’s also immoral since it will fund the ailing Kremlin war machine). The US has no need of Russian diesel. It already refines more than enough for domestic demand — with 1.5m b/d for export. Russia has no diesel to export. Ukrainian drones have taken out a third of Russian refining capacity, turning Russia into a net importer of diesel (from India). The volumes involved are derisory. The initial Russian offer = 2.2m barrels. The US consumes 3.5m b/d. The price of diesel at the US pump is between $6/6.50. That won’t change before the midterms. The deal does nothing to help Trump in these elections. But it bolsters Putin and undermines Ukraine.

From a Facebook Group, Yorkshire Humour. ⚠ A Sheffield man has praised Andy Burnham's new Google Maps fuel price feature after managing to save a whopping ÂŁ1.60 on a tank of petrol! đŸ˜Č 33 year old Phillip Patel spotted a petrol station selling fuel 4p a litre cheaper than his local garage and immediately made the 3 mile journey to fill up his tank! After completing the 6 mile round trip, the delighted motorist worked out that he'd spent 95p on petrol getting there and back, leaving him with a net saving of 65p! đŸ„‚ To celebrate his newfound wealth, Phil treated himself to a Freddo bar. A luxury purchase he admits he probably wouldn't have made had it not been for the Fuel Map.

PM Burnham is considering delaying a decision about when the government will increase defence spending until the autumn of next year in the hope that Britain’s economy improves. I’m sure Britain’s many enemies will give him the breathing space he requires to make up his mind. It’s not as if it’s a dangerous world.
