Really good thread in the importance of doing good research.
I did 300 customer discovery interviews before launching my tech company We still managed to build the wrong thing 5 big mistakes that people (including me) make when interviewing buyers:

Velocity is not measured by the time between when a ticket is added to the sprint and the time it’s closed. The clock starts ticking when the customer has a problem, and stops when their problem is resolved.

Every time I hear a manager talk about "the loss of hallway serendipity" I imagine many of them complained pre-pandemic about how much time their team wasted doing "non-work" things. #remote

My wife recently launched a small online business at mouthhats.shop, making and selling face masks. There’s a few different styles, and flat fee shipping in Australia. Plus she’s donating 20% of all profits to @ALS_NSWACT.

This is a useful post. Not all possible to act on if you don't live in the US. But I found it helpful nonetheless. xitter.cf/MsPackyetti/status/126…

Trying to learn about user needs by only observing what they do in your product is about as useful as trying to learn about polar bears by only hanging out in zoos. Ooh, do they like the beach ball better than the soccer ball? Well, that’s all you gave them in captivity.

CAN'T SHARE THIS ENOUGH --> What to do if a stranger is being harassed. I did this and it works. To have read this cartoon a while back and to have had this tool in that terrible moment was so empowering. Take a look. You will need this sooner or later.

We started out joyous because so many females applied (over 51%), but we're ecstatic that through blind reviews we actually chose a higher percentage than that. Explore #ANewDawn of interaction design with us: check out who'll be speaking at #IxD20, Milan edition. Link below!

Our fire fighters don’t need thoughts & prayers - they need funds. Our scientists don’t need thoughts & prayers - they need trust. Our climate doesn’t need thoughts & prayers - it needs action & policy. Our nation doesn’t need thoughts & prayers - it needs leadership.
Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have been so directly and horribly impacted by these fires.

If I could stop teams from making just one product research mistake, it would be asking users to predict their future behavior. Humans are bad at this, so these unreliable answers can give teams false confidence in a bad direction.

It’s pretty cool to launch a new conference. It’d be cooler if YOU were speaking at it. If you are a user, customer, or product researcher of any stripe, please pitch a talk. CFP closes 9/29: rfld.me/34QWjDo And… please RT/share with smart researches you know.
