For Seachdain Na Gaidhlig (@sngaidhlig), please enjoy this recording of Iain Ghlinne Cuaich, arranged by the wonderful Sonny Fielding. I've loved this song since I was 11, and was delighted to premier it in my RAM final recital in 2022 youtube.com/watch?v=UUGSyzjj…

Take away the spellbinding music and our extraordinary, world-class musicians, today really is MAN IN HAT SITS IN CHAIR. As our last 5 PMs (6 if you count the lettuce) sat basking in the reflected glory of this mass of talent, worth remembering they did this to arts funding:

Listen, I know the powers that be in this country are not out to make my life, specifically, harder...but some days it really feels like it. Remove my ability to travel and work freely in other countries, then axe funding for my work in the UK. What is the point anymore?

Living in this country is honestly becoming so exhausting.

Does anyone else think that the pandemic opened a terrible watershed in programmes asking for video first round applications? Its so expensive as a young singer to make recordings every 3 months that fulfil rep requirements for everything you might apply for.

Recording equipment: big initial outlay for decent camera and 2 mics to capture sound adequately. Venue hire. Accompanist pay for rehearsal and recording session. If you want competitive recording quality, really you need a videographer for £400 a session.

Is it really necessary? How did we cope before? I know some programmes still wanted recordings but most didnt. The financial barriers post-covid make it so much harder for young singers to break into the industry

Please do come along if you can on Sunday evening. I'm really looking forward to singing Rückert Lieder, and all proceeds go to St Mark's Hamilton Terrace after our fire last week.
Next Sunday evening @leodorloud sings Mahler's Rückert-Lieder in a fundraising concert for @StMark_HT @SGabrielPimlico; Daniel Collins conducts Beethoven and Dvořák. 🎟️smhtlive.co.uk/index.php/wha… @MaidaValeNews

Heartbreaking news about the fire at St Marks Hamilton Terrace, the church where I sing in the choir. It's horrible seeing the photos of it burning and empty, so here are some photos of it and its congregation full of life - the way I know it.
We are heartbroken. St Mark’s has been a beacon of hope & light in a dark world for 175 years. As a church, we have worshipped together and loved our community - seeking to serve the parish. This will not stop. We don’t yet know the full extent of the damage, but we will rebuild.

Stirring stuff from the chorus today at the walk for @E_N_O

🧵 A very touching moment in my whole class trumpet teaching today: swollen-faced and sore from wisdom tooth extraction, at my wit's end from genuinely abominable behaviour in my classes, and with the recent ACE devastation at the forefront of my mind...

It was such a dream come true to sing the Verdi Requiem solos for the first time last night. This was the first piece I sang professionally (in the chorus) when I moved to London, 4 years ago. No videos of the performance yet but here's a snip of Liber Scriptus rehearsal!

I really believe the final 'Domine, Domine, Domine, libera, libera, libera me!' a few pages from the end is the best 6 bars of music ever written. The ultimate catharsis. What a bop!!
The block of cheese in my fridge has seen 2 prime ministers, 3 chancellors, and 3 home secretaries. Maybe it would do a better job? #GeneralElectionNow

Never forget that this swathe of resigners knew exactly what he was like. They didn't resign because they found out he had no morals, they resigned because the public found out. Not one of them is fit to be in government again. #ToryMeltdown
