People like this are the reason why fiction sucks so bad now, they are captured by a illogical idealogy. As a soon to be indie author, I will exclusively be writing about boy stuff. If the publishers won't publish such books, someone has to.
We are going to have a fundamental difference of opinion if you think the answer to boys not reading is to write about “boy stuff” and not rethink how we engage with boys in general let alone as readers. No specific interest or taste should be placed on a gender binary!!!

When I called out the lack of books for guys/boys/men last year, I got excoriated. Now EVERYONE is in on the fix. I wasn’t a monster. I was ahead of the curve

Obi-Wan: Only a Sith deals in absolutes. Jay: Dude, you just made an absolute statement. You contradicted yourself right from the start. Obi-Wan: The Force is balance. It transcends such simplistic categories. Jay: Balance is still an absolute standard you’re appealing to. You’re saying there’s a correct way the Force should be understood versus an incorrect way. That’s an absolute distinction. And if the Force is just some impersonal energy field, it can’t ground the laws of logic you’re currently using to make sense of anything. Your whole worldview is floating on nothing.

The best dnd is new + old school ideas. That's why for my 5e games I use dungeon exploration rules and random encounters. For old school I use feats/death saves when dropping to 0hp
𝗢𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗗&𝗗: You encounter a monster. You have no idea how tough it is. You can fight it, run from it, bargain with it, or come up with something clever. 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗻 𝗗&𝗗: You encounter a monster. It's probably been balanced for your level. Your PC has a tactical submenu, three ways to heal, and maybe a heroic destiny the DM is expected to protect. I've played both. I know which approach I prefer.

Ran old school DND and it was a lot of fun. I use roll20 with some old school retro pixel art for assets! #becmi #pixelart

What's even funnier is the cope. "The studios closed down because of corporate greed," 🤣 lmaoo
"These games aren't for you anymore, if you don't like it don't buy it" "Ok" *Several long standing studios collapse*

All that yelling and smacking Chris Rock, for this? Lmao insane
55 years old Jada smith was spotted with a TikTok creator in his 20s at a beach in Maldives sharing a kiss, is she not married to Will Smith? 💔

This is one of the rare instances where I actually like modern DND art.

I don't mind a good background. As long as it stays under a paragraph
I know that this is the agreed upon take shared by 99% of the old school RPG sphere on X but it's totally alien to me and doesn't align with any of my gaming experiences from the mid-80's and onward. Playing B/X in the early 80's yes, I was a little kid who just made throw away characters with no backstory. But once I turned 12 or 13 all me and my buddies have ever wanted to do from that point on is feel like we're playing heroes that could appear in a classic ERB, REH, Tolkien, or Dragonlance novel, or the movie versions of Conan or Beastmaster, and every single one of those characters had backstories and we all had a hell of a lot of fun thinking them up or writing them as players, and reading them as DM's/GM's. Then Cyberpunk 2020 came along and made your backstory an awesome part of the RAW character creation experience (other games did too, but that was our main sci-fi go-to after Robotech.) I often wonder if people on X literally never got past playing anything other than "I enter the dungeon, kick down the door, fight the monster, get treasure and go home" which would bore me and all my friends out of our minds if that was all we ever did, or if they're simply too nervous to go against the herd and admit that there are way more fun, immersive, and satisfying ways to play. Having a backstory doesn't mean you're suddenly the "main character" or that a DM must tailor every single encounter to your "story" nor does it mean that anyone who writes one is trying to cheat and come up with a reason to give their level 1 PC a Holy Avenger +5 "family heirloom." It simply means that you have a handle on who your starting character is and where he or she came from and some previous life experiences that led to him or her being who they are and where they're at. They can also serve to instantly anchor said PC to the setting you're playing in as well as give the DM the *option* of incorporating any of those elements as hooks in upcoming adventures. That's all. If you write up an elaborate and dramatic backstory and then you die in the very first session (which literally happened to me once) well then that's just how it goes and you start over again. Even the original game implies that everyone has a backstory of sorts. Elves start out having been alive the better part of a century. Level 1 fighters are called Veterans and so on. Obviously anyone can play however they want, and if playing a fully grown character with no past experiences or memories that just sprouted from the ground like a Peter Jackson Uruk-hai is your cup of tea then have at it. I've just always just found the almost universal stigma against leaning into Gary's OD&D recommendation to embrace playing characters like Conan, John Carter, Fafhrd and Grey Mouser to be very strange.

I either go thief or fighter. But Ive only played as a player 4 times. I'm a forever DM. And Ive been playing since 2014
Over 40 years, my least played character class was Thief. Wasn't really my thing. And parties got by just fine without thieves, honestly. The Original Game didn't even have thieves. So are thieves/rogues really necessary or just a nice to have?

If video game companies want to stay in business, maybe the male gaze isn't so bad after all.
