😂 Sometimes, all it takes is one pleasant surprise to restore our faith in Nigerian airlines! Air Peace said, “Let’s give this man a reason to smile this time around.” More of this, please!

Air Peace surprised me pleasantly this past weekend. 😂 Friday morning flight, first one for the day left on schedule. Well, no surprises there as that's usually the case. It was the return flight for 8:45pm on Saturday that was the surprise.

Was fully prepared to "sleep" at the airport. But to my shock we started boarding just before 8:45 and took up around a few minutes past 9. My wife couldn't believe it but was very happy. 😂

The boy who chose shoes over code. — Yinka Atunde, a computer science graduate of Babcock University, saw his plans change in 2015 when delays to the NYSC programme gave him time to rethink his next steps. — Instead of tech, he followed his love for design. He travelled to Italy for a shoemaking course with placements in Italian factories, then toured factories in China, where the pace was faster and more commercial. —Then came the move that shocked everyone at home: back in Nigeria in 2015, he took a manual job in a local shoe factory, to the dismay of his family. From fashion shoes to safety boots — Yikodeen started in 2016 making fashion shoes, then a police contract pointed it toward safety footwear. Work on safety boots began in 2018, but certification and COVID slowed things down. — The big break? Saipem, the Italian oil-services firm, tested the boots and started ordering in 2022, proving a Nigerian maker could meet strict safety standards. — Local content helped too: Yikodeen is one of the few domestic manufacturers certified by NCDMB to supply safety footwear to the oil and gas sector. Regulation did the rest. — Lagos State Safety Commission now inspects even small construction sites, where workers once wore flip-flops. Demand got so heavy that they had to reject all military footwear orders for lack of capacity. Enter the money — Aruwa Capital @AruwaCapital invested $1.5 million from its Fund II as sole investor, to buy equipment that would take capacity 10x to 2,500 pairs a day, grow corporate sales and improve efficiency. — The investor's logic is worth noting: many of Yikodeen's corporate clients pay in dollars, a natural hedge against naira depreciation. — Aruwa has since led a follow-on round, with the company adding an upgraded plant and specialised lines for electrical and water-hazard environments. Ten years on Yikodeen claims over five million pairs in ten years and capacity of 5,000 pairs daily from a 120,000 sq ft factory in Ejigbo, Lagos.
Found another manufacturing company in Nigeria 😍😍😍😍

Someone gifted my wife and I a 100k spa voucher for our 10th wedding anniversary. 🥹 Someone I've barely known for 4 months.

My three friends, Bola, Biola, and Lola, and I were proactive about the protest, as we stationed ourselves at the Alausa, Ikeja barricade. They said we should join them at the Lekki Toll Gate on 20-10-20. We got into our cars, but when we arrived in Gbagada, my car broke down near Gbagada General Hospital. They waited while my mechanic worked on the car. The hours passed, and before we knew it, it was approaching 6 p.m. I told them to go ahead without me and promised to join them later that night. After my car was finally fixed at exactly 7:35 p.m., I started the engine and was about to accelerate when my mother's call came in. "Seun, if you have been at the protest ground, you have tried your best, and it is time for you to go home." This was after Sanwo-Olu had issued a stern warning to everyone. My mum did not just advise me to go home; she pleaded with me to leave. I called my friends and asked them to return to the mainland. They refused. They were adamant that they wanted to fight for the country. They said they were tired of the state of the nation and that it was either now or never. At 8 p.m., I went on my socials and saw DJ Switch's Instagram Live broadcast. The Nigerian Army was already firing sporadically, initially shooting into the air to scare the protesters away. But the protesters insisted they were not cowards and stood their ground. By 8:25 p.m., the soldiers had started firing live ammunition at the protesters. Bola was not so lucky. He was hit by a bullet, and we lost him. Following his death, his mother, who was barely 52 years old, died the following year. Despite his eldest brother relocating her to the UK in the hope that a change of environment would help her cope with Bola's death, all efforts proved futile. We lost Bola on 20-10-2020. We lost Bola's mum on 15-09-2021. Rest on, Abimbola. 🕊️

6 Years Later! We are still dealing with Insecurity, hunger, poverty, lack of proper health care and the highest level of corruption and impunity. The saddest part is that we are even more divided as a people at a time when we should be most united. I hope one day we truly realize the power that we have as citizens and stop allowing a few selfish individuals destroy the success and prosperity of the majority of us. Till then, ✌🏾 and 🤍
