The countries hosting the scam compounds carry under 3% of the world's scam losses. The US alone carries about a third.
New @armidalecompany report: the compound is not the business. It is premises, leased to tenants.

I am pleased to announce the launch of @scamstats. This is an initiative lead by @armidalecompany to provide a unified and comparable set of data that sizes the problem of scams and fraud globally.
scamstats.org
Every country counts scams differently, if at all, so nobody could say how many people are scammed worldwide.
@scamstats is our answer: one method, every country, every figure traced to an official source.
Our first estimate: 655 million people a year.

My new report from @armidalecompany: what a national fraud figure is actually made of, and why one of its numbers was wrong for a year.
A spreadsheet ran out of rows. Nobody caught it.

Ask anyone in financial crime what share of alerts are false positives and you will hear 90 to 95%.
We traced the figure. It rests on one interview remark and a paper that gives no source.
Nobody is required to count who gets shut out.

A @panaynewsdotnet column on the Philippines’ anti-scam law cites the @GSMA ASEAN Consumer Scam Report 2026, which I wrote at @armidalecompany.
Only 16% of Filipino scam victims go to the police. 49% report to digital platforms, the highest in ASEAN.

Fortune India on the GSMA India Consumer Scam Report 2026, which I wrote at @armidalecompany.
43% of Indian scam victims say the biggest impact was ongoing anxiety or a loss of confidence. 67% of those who lost money recovered nothing.

The420.in’s daily cyber brief covers the @GSMA India Consumer Scam Report 2026, which I wrote at @armidalecompany.
Indian scam victims who report contact two organisations on average. For 35% of reported cases, none takes responsibility.

I wrote this year's GSMA India Consumer Scam Report.
49% of Indian victims go to the police, up from 37% last year. Government or the police resolved 32% of the cases taken to them, more than any other organisation.
India already publishes the money saved. Next: cases resolved.
Our GSMA India Consumer Scam Report 2026 is out.
87% of Indian consumers are comfortable with their bank or financial provider using their data to detect fraud. 86% of victims take the case to an organisation.
A third of reported cases end unresolved.

The largest cost of scams falls on people who were never scammed.
In our GSMA ASEAN report, 56% of consumers in Southeast Asia now avoid inbound contact or transactions because of scams. The never-scammed do it just as much.
No government counts it.

In 2001 the US gave banks a safe harbour to share financial crime intelligence. By 2020, 7,000+ had signed up. 22% used it.
The law removed the wrong risk. And no competition regulator has said if rivals may even discuss fraud.

Governments measure reports received, arrests made, websites taken down.
Not whether the case ended for the victim.
One regulator anywhere publishes a victim outcome rate. The FBI's 66% recovery rate? Calculated on 3,020 of 859,532 complaints.

First look at the GSMA ASEAN Consumer Scam Report 2026. This year we followed what happens after the scam, and what it costs when it goes nowhere.
