Our report uncovers China's massive colonial boarding school system in Tibet. 800,000 - 900,000 Tibetan children ages 6-18 are separated frm their parents & families in schools designed to strip them of their identity. This # doesn't include 4 & 5 yr-olds in boarding pre-schools.
Separated from their families, hidden from the world: China's vast system of colonial boarding schools inside Tibet. Read the new report by @tibetaction at tinyurl.com/colonialboarding…

Hey @CNN , it’s the Nepal–Tibet border, not the “Nepal–China border.” Tibet and Nepal share centuries of history, culture, trade and people-to-people ties. Please don’t erase Tibet from the geography

Upstream engineering, downstream disaster: The hidden factor in Nepal’s tragedy. My op-ed on how China’s upstream projects may have turned a natural disaster into a cascading catastrophe.
According to Beijing's own statements over the past decade, it has expanded embankments, border facilities, highways and other civil works in the upstream river corridor, with significant construction concentrated along riverbanks. Its diversion weirs, intake structures, embankments and other hydrological modifications created localized bottlenecks in the Himalayan gorges.
Realignment of riverbanks, concrete embankments and heavy border civil engineering (such as facilities around Gyirong Port) narrowed natural channels. Upstream hydraulic structures, including intake works, altered natural flow dynamics, creating secondary choke points that burst under pressure, exacerbating the sudden torrent downstream. asia.nikkei.com/opinion/nepa…

A Nepali journalists’ collective has raised serious questions about the August 26 flash floods in Rasuwa, alleging that extensive Chinese construction and hill-cutting along the Tibet–Nepal border may have contributed to the disaster.
The claims remain unverified, but the warning cannot be ignored. Beijing’s unchecked infrastructure expansion, environmental destruction and exploitation of Tibet’s fragile Himalayan ecosystem could have consequences far beyond Tibet’s borders.
When rivers are dammed, mountains carved up and fragile ecosystems disrupted, downstream communities pay the price.

This post is like oxygen for me right now. Do you think blasting on a massive scale in the immediate vicinity of the glacier collapse might be linked to this horrific disaster? China's endless blasting, mining, dam building in occupied Tibet, & even inside Nepal, is the key.
Nepal is paying a devastating price, and serious questions remain over what China knew and when it warned its neighbour.
Beijing’s relentless construction, damming and exploitation of Tibet’s fragile Himalayan ecosystem and rivers cannot be separated from the growing risks downstream.
The CCP demands trust while hiding information, silencing scrutiny and putting its interests first. History has taught us: never trust Beijing.

CM @PemaKhanduBJP expressed serious concern at #China’s refusal to enter into binding international water treaties and its selective sharing of hydrological data. He emphasized the urgent need for cooperative governance of shared water resources in Asia.

Thanks @BethanyAllenEbr for this important piece but I want to explain why China-related groups have become reliant on USG funding. Many people do not appreciate just *how hard* it is to raise funds for China-related human rights & democracy work.

As Uyghur refugees in Thailand face the imminent threat of deportation, CFU Executive Director @RushanAbbas has been on the ground, advocating for their cause. Together with colleagues from the World Uyghur Congress, Rushan met with Thai Parliament Member @nolkannavee, civil society leaders Chalida Tajaroensuk of the People’s Empowerment Foundation, and Phil Robertson of the Asia Human Rights Labour Advocates, engaged with the media, and held important discussions with diplomats and other stakeholders to prevent the Thai government from deporting 48 Uyghur refugees to China.
We call on all allies to raise their voices and urge Thai authorities to uphold their obligations and immediately halt the deportation of these men.
Mr. Varennes,
You were the first to speak out in defense of Tibetan children and sound the global alarm on this issue together with your UN colleagues in 2022.
Thank you for continuing to take action for them. 🙏🏽

For Ms Sangdrol, there has been some comfort in seeing her fellow Tibetans band together during a...crisis.
"Although it is heartbreaking to see the natural disaster ..., I am very happy to see that Tibetans inside Tibet still maintain their strong unity as before."
"However, from my experience, I am worried because it is inevitable that some people who are showing concern for this incident will face difficulties due to false political accusations against them."

Sangdrol was 13 when 1st imprisoned:
"Usually everybody's not open, but this time, everybody is less scared because it's a natural disaster."
"Sometimes I feel I can't see that much … but this time I can feel how they are strong & united w each other.
