I'm happy to share that I'll be at Iowa State University as of July 1 as an Associate Teaching Professor in the Tech Comm concentration. I'm excited about this move and all the positive changes it should bring.

The best news is that this week we notified students of TAships, undergraduate and graduate awards, and honor society induction ceremonies. It's been a really good past couple of days. It's the best when you can share good news.
Also, it is my partner's birthday today. He is 37 years old. Around a year ago he lost his oldest brother. It's a weird time.
I made a decision to do something a few days ago and today I did that thing.
I don't think I will get the thing, but I had to do the thing. It was in my best interest and in the best interest of others to do the thing.
So it's done.
The best thing I did as a writing teacher after pandemic teaching was getting rid of late paper penalties. I want people to turn in quality work, and sometimes that means accepting late work.

Becoming a good writer is to materially and deeply consider your audience. Good writers adapt to situation, context, audience, genre, and purpose. I say this as a response to “AI” writing programs that almost by definition don’t have such awareness

I love tech, and working with ChatGPT has been fun, but I am also so tired of trying to get some colleagues to understand that writing is a social and human activity and not a skill.

I dislike DST. My kids are still asleep, which means we will have a transition back to school time next week and I didn't accidentally sleep in so today I am feeling the time change more than yesterday. Why do we do DST again?
