Today a student asked if I was the superintendent. When I said yes, her friend said, βsee what girls can do!β Followed by another student asking me how it felt to be a woman with a βtop jobβ. Representation matters for our students!

βInstruction in handwriting is not about making handwriting pretty or perfect but instead about automatizing letter and word formations to free up working memory for the significant idea management necessary for good writing.β @williamvancleave
I LOVE this article because it draws from decades of writing research, including that of S. Graham, V. Berninger, emphasizing the importance of explicit, systematic handwriting in daily literacy instruction. #ScienceOfWriting

One of the easiest ways to celebrate someone is to compliment them! A) they might need it, and B) itβs going to make them feel good! But, most importantly, they probably need to hear it. Donβt walk around filled with love and appreciation for the people around you, and never tell them. Who has been on your mind to compliment lately? Tag them and let them know how you feel!

The morale of teachers and staff directly influences the overall school culture. With high morale, they are more likely to be motivated, engaged, and committed to their work. This, in turn, contributes to improved collaboration, sense of community, and student success.
Michelle Nero retweeted
If you don't think morale is important, remember that a student's learning environment is created by the teacher. A teacher who is supported, valued, & appreciated will create a more positive & dynamic learning environment than a teacher who is not.

Staff feeling valued, or not, is really a reflection of leadership. It affects:
Morale & Motivation
Retention
Productivity
Teamwork
Trust & Communication
Innovation and Creativity
School Culture
Job Satisfaction
Professional Growth & Development

Admin, as the year continues, remember Maslow's hierarchy is not just for students. Teachers/ staff need:
1) feel safe / supported
2) emotional connection/ relationship
3) respect
4) feel seen/ heard
5) appreciation
What else?

Some students need you to believe in them until they believe in themselves. Some adults do as well.

To the people who say itβs all about the kids. Just remember the kids learn in an environment created by the teacher. A teacher who is supported, encouraged and appreciated will create a more positive and dynamic learning environment than a teacher who is not supported that way.

Admin, you are best supporting your students when you support your staff.
*Encourage & appreciate them
*Ask how they are doing & what they need
*Have their back
*Be consistent
*Ask for their input
*Encourage use of their talents/ innovation
*Respect & value them & their time

We shouldnβt punish kids for being kids. If they sit in desks too long, donβt be surprised if they get fidgety or talkative. Yes, thereβs a time & place for quiet learning. But we need more time & places for kids to play, move, socialize & be kids. That's how they naturally learn
