Does anyone know who I. Dugdale, who carved this graffiti on Apr 22 1911, was? It’s near High Sweden Bridge. Any ideas @ByLakeland @Countrystride1 ?

This is a superb book. I’ve leafed through to look at the fabulous photos but now I’m slowing to take the time to read the text, which deserves my full attention. Dave’s writing is so elegant. @inspiredbylakeland @countrystride

What a fabulous evening listening to the Grasmere Dialect Plays excerpts. Still funny after nearly 100 years. And with excellent music too. Well done @sue_wilkinson ☺️

Book signing at the Yew Tree Barn antiques emporium in Low Newton (& lunch at Harry’s cafe on site) after a walk over the nearby fells where we saw no one - and it’s half term! Mind you Bowness & the lake shore was awash with people.

It doesn’t seem to let up! 🙄💔😢 Local friends of mine clearing up an abandoned camp with firepit and litter (plus poo!💩) by the shores of Wastwater and a SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) 🤬 #lakedistrict #flycamping Note the “sign” that would say NO CAMPING, NO FIRES🤔 I hear from some pals who live down south arguing it’s not bad and just hyperbole what’s happening in Cumbria…hmmmm 😳🙄😢 It’s not hyperbole at all! Nature NEEDS SPACE too! 💧🐿️⛰️🌳 I find the naivety of some like @Right_2Roam extremely naive and upsetting and who profess a love for nature and the outdoors 😢 It’s clear to me education is key but so is enforcement. And it’ll take time for any aspirations for many to care for nature and the outdoors they bang on about 💔

I’ve been reflecting on my visit to the ‘Everest the Hard Way’ exhibition in Grasmere - looking at my 1st edition copy of the book & realising there wasn’t a single woman on that expedition. How the world has changed, climbing is no longer viewed in the same way. Different times.

Today was a day for strollin’ and where better to stroll to but the newly re-opened Grove Barn cafe (walkers only) above Ambleside. The veggie breakfast was so delicious I’d cleaned the plate before I remembered to photograph it! And the views - just look at those views! 😍

For anyone who knew Julie. She was an inspiration. And my friend. I miss her ❤️
Hi everyone, it's Callum, Julie’s son. My beautiful, determined, brave, fiercely independent, and private mum cycled off on her final journey early on 15th July. She fought like a warrior until the last second of her life. She was active online and I wanted to let you all know❤️
