Id like to invite you to spend a day with me and my profoundly disabled 17 year old and explain how he/we might avoid the trajectory towards him becoming a “NEET”…
Important ruling. Health and welfare deputyship a more realistic prospect for those of us advocating for adult children who have LD. In asociety where those with LD are much more likely to die early, legally supported advocates are crucial. rookirwinsweeney.co.uk/court…

".. where does the money come from, because of course the welfare bill is huge.."
Except as Kevin Maguire pointed out on #GMB last month, welfare spending is about 10.6% of GDP, as a proportion thats lower than most other European countries, & the majority of it goes on pensions
A friend of mine whose son has a LD, has found out that her application to the CoP for health deputyship has been turned down. She was doing it “just in case” because whilst there have been concerns in the past, currently there are no serious health concerns.
Simply aren’t fit for purpose… and yet if it came down to it… if an emergency happened… those people nearest and dearest, the people who know him the best, wouldn’t have the law on their side when pushing for what they consider to be his best interests.
Delighted to hear that @JKcomarc has been invited to take part in the Aqua clinical trial by @YorkResearch for his dry mouth symptoms that were one of the side effects he has after radiotherapy. We had looked at this trial but nearest recruiting centre was Nottingham.
The cliff edge is real! Families of disabled children aren’t aware of the need to apply for a ESA credits only award to establish (in)capacity for work as soon as possible after a child turns 16 in order to circumvent a wait and huge financial loss when the “child” claims UC.

Requirements for a specific access card issued by @nimbusdis are becoming a focus of concern for those needing disabled access to venues. Unfortunately venues are increasingly making their card (£15) or a free digital venue specific type of pass, the only disabled access option.
He used to have a CEA card for the cinema (£6.50), to enable a free carer but I didn’t renew it. One isn’t required at our local cinema, who (whilst recommending them) accept other forms of evidence of need.
