TLDR; I'll save you an hour. Anthropic's new thing is centralised and boring. CRDTs are more interesting but this isn't what they went for. Students of Conway's Law can take from this what they will. Anthropic is centralised and boring. This is not an AI company. It's a company clinging on to the delusional prospect of being the only company in town. Git is powerful because the database it's portable. By default, every instance holds the complete state. Git history is intact without a central server and this means you can fork a repository and if you wish to divorce it from the origin without losing anything. You can merge it back too. Re Conway's Law, I've been a professional programmer since I was a teenager. I've worked everywhere from firmware to frontend at companies ranging from a single person side gigs to FTSE 100s and global banks. Software architecture reveals how organisations are structured; where information flows and where it doesn't. While Anthropic's VCS might be perfectly fine it should be recognised that it is absolutely Anthropic's. This is not company that has solved code. Quite the opposite. They have arrived at the 1980s. N They have no taste and no discipline because they have not experienced the trials and tribulations of caring for or maintaining software. I won't waste your time making an essay out of this. If you are a newbie or a junior developer wondering what the point of this career is anymore, don't panic. The hype is loud and it is suffocating, but know that these companies are desperate and their products inadequate. It's dreadful software and they have no idea how bad it is.

Early Christendom energy. I used AI to make this pie chart because why the fuck would I do it myself? I don't need to make pie charts and I don't need to use my brain for anything. I don't even need to hire a pie chart guy.

It is also possible that every oxygen atom in the room I'm in may migrate to a corner, thereby suffocating me. I think the major takeaway is that @polynoamial is wasting his time on entirely foolish things at the expense of confronting the hard things.
OpenAI's Noam Brown says air-gapping the computers may not stop a misaligned AI, because two air-gapped machines can still talk by running a CPU hot and reading the temperature change "But I think the major takeaway from the incident is that people underestimated the AI. And we never want to be in a situation again where we underestimate the AI. It's a weird world, because AI progress is so fast that people are consistently underestimating the AI." "So to be in a situation where you don't underestimate it again, when it comes to safety and alignment, you have to have a very, very, very high bar." "You could even go as far as to say, "Well, we should air gap the computers." And I'm not convinced that that would be sufficient." "There are studies, and this is mostly academic, where you can have two computers next to each other that are air-gapped and they're still able to communicate with each other because they have temperature sensors." "One of them is able to run their CPU really hot, and then the other one can actually detect the temperature change, and then that actually gives them a mechanism to communicate." _________ Link and more key quotes from OpenAI's safety related conversations: firesidealpha.substack.com/p…

Lying is a simpler explanation. That's how the emissions scandal started. Other carmakers didn't know that Volkswagen were cheating but none of them could afford to admit that they had not "achieved RSI internally". So no, it's not a conspiracy when all the participants are under equivalent pressure and as a consequence they appear to be colluding. It's market forces and and we even have a name for it: multiple discovery.

r/accelerate is a partians source. You could make a collection of predictions from Sam that would look just as brazen. I think Zitron is more directionally correct than wrong. There is a lot riding on this build out and there is massive hype for all things "AI". You won't find too much opposition on twitter given how the audience is slanted towards believing in all the AI grandstanding. Either there is career risk, and or financial benefit. But it doesn’t take a genius, to see that a business with a negative operating margin is unlikely to end well. Margins can and likely will improve. But on the other side of that coin, the semis, neos, ai trade, etc companies will sell off if they do. I’m not interested in Jevons paradox, a term originally coined to describe coal consumption, users have shown that they are price sensitive, eager to switch, and, for the most part, are not doing anything economically productive with these products. You wouldn’t be clamoring for usage resets and price cuts if the product were generating real economic value for you; you would treat it as a cost of doing business and move forward. SV has a lot lost the plot as well, AI psychosis at municipal level.
Incredible collection of Ed Zitron predictions from a very non-Zitronian subreddit reddit.com/r/accelerate/comm…

It's insurmountable cope. If you could recover this much from truncated traces you wouldn't need a 2.8T base. Not to mention the fact that Moonshot would have only had since June to do this, starting from empty. But above all, let's not forget that all model corpuses are contaminated with all model outputs.

There's no quantum compute and your favourite LLM is a rebranded autocomplete running on severely unoptimised hardware because we're using software that failed to scale. Thank you for your attention on this matter.

"Code itself will go away in favor of just making the binary directly."
Replying to @robustus
Code itself will go away in favor of just making the binary directly. The next step after that is direct, real-time pixel generation by the neural net.
