An honor long deserved, Tihosuco has been named a Historical Monuments Zone. Because of its history in the decades-long Castes War/Guerra de Castas in Yucatan, not to mention the stunning church, it is one of my favorite places to study and visit in the region.

Maya wooden lintels with sculpture are rare, examples are known from Tikal, El Zotz, Dzibanche. The zapote wood Lintel 1 from Kabah is lost now, luckily F. Catherwood made a drawing in 1843: we just included in our archive classicmayan.kor.de.dariah.e…, thanks to @nypl ! More to come!
