Such humanity, kindness and generosity shown by @LNER staff yesterday ~ Orlett train guard 8.15 Leeds to KingsX, Tammy-Leeds Crew, Dorca-York crew on 16.39 KingsX 2 Leeds. Great people amazing service to a person with sight loss. So much better than airports!
A person with sight loss still doesn’t feel it appropriate that at @DubaiAirports they’re told to sit in a wheelchair when they want guided assistance of a person holding the arm @emirates. Same @HIAQatar @qatarairways and @ad_airports it’s AWFUL! Please change this policy.
Oops! A severely sight impaired person was pleased to have @bradfordmdc deliver a new food waste caddy. He only wished they’d liaised internally with their Visual Impairment Unit & obtained addresses of those with sight loss to provide instructions in large font, braille, etc.
Really wish @WhichUK did a specific focus on people with sight loss and generally, those with disabilities, and their experiences of support/reasonable adjustments by retailers, airports, online etc. Maybe @RNIB_campaigns could suggest also?
It seems @AldiUK are making better progress in helping customers with sight loss with reports of better staff/customer interactions and more willingness to assist, especially at most self checkout facilities. Good to know.
Great service @homebargains in various stores where staff support people with sight loss without making it a drama as some seem to be. The staff approach and consistency of help given is excellent. Thank you for being a beacon of good practice. @RNIB @DisabilityGovUK
Is there no response from @waitrose ? @Oxfordmjk One would hope they would have commented and hopefully not caught in the headlights.
Complete silence from @waitrose as it it doesn’t matter. Still no sure why the security guard stood by inches away-when complaining to the same manager who kindly assisted finding items in aisles, minutes earlier? What’s that about?
Perhaps @waitrose you could learn from this experience? Always about dignity and respect towards this with sight loss.
Replying to @marksandspencer
@marksandspencer amazing staff and service today #Oxford centre @loss_sight such a difference to the lack of respect @waitrose (never again!)
Water bills hitting homes especially for vulnerable show increases most can afford @thameswater @YorkshireWater et al @Ofwat @10DowningStreet This is mere profiteering at consumers expense? Govt needs to act now!
Young people have a range of disabilities which exacerbates anxiety. It’s appalling they’re attacked for a benefit that has hurdles to access. Let’s fix the system not blame those in real need.
It’s based on a number of experiences of those with sight loss. It would help if staff were better trained. Give sight loss people some dignity please plus respect.
Replying to @loss_sight
Hi, we're very sorry to hear about your experience. If you could send us a DM with your full name, date of birth, and postcode, I'd be more than happy to look into this for you.
Training and educating your staff is one solution. It happens frequently and it seems your staff cannot understand the importance of a person with a white cane walking into your stores. It’s all about dignity and respect so please do inform them.
There’s a certain irony when a sight loss person with a white cane walks into an opticians. Experience shows @bootsopticians @VisionExpress @Specsavers mostly ignore you and the cane in hand, offering no assistance or understanding. Really odd!
The Government @10DowningStreet should ban people parking on pavements. It’s hell for people with sight loss, wheelchair users, elderly, mothers with prams.
Why is practice so bad on airlines for people with sight loss? @SimonCalder @British_Airways crews are well trained and care. @emirates @etihad @qatarairways amongs ‘premier’ brands, often poor training. Let’s not start on airports! Where’s the dignity?
Support at supermarkets for sight loss customers is hit & miss. BAD: @AldiUK @LidlGB @Morrisons @asda no staff awareness or recognition GOOD: @marksandspencer @waitrose @sainsburys @Tesco so @WhichUK analyse that! There are some very compassionate staff, others don’t care.
So true. They are mostly not clinically qualified. Is it not about power over the patient?
No surprise really. Airlines are often the most unaware or respectful of disabilities as are airports. They’re treated as fodder with the only incentive being profit not compassion @Heidi_Labour
“EasyJet destroyed my final holiday and treated me without compassion” – Wayne Lawson, who has terminal cancer. After the airline cancelled his flight, he should have been given a hotel room, but instead was left to sleep on the floor at Gatwick.
