in case you're going through it and need a reminder - depression, anxiety, sadness, worry, etc, are all reasonable responses to living on earth. let the people who love you know if you need a hand. it's okay.

We’ll continue to fight for more equitable local government systems across the province so that when equity-deserving folks step up to serve in public office, they feel welcome to stay. 7/7 #VanPoli

We are eager to see @AnneKangMLA & @Dave_Eby ensure gender minorities in local gov. have a safe & inclusive workplace. If equity-deserving groups (like new moms!) are kept out of decision-making rooms, progress on housing, climate, & gender safety will remain out of reach. 6/7

Most cities across BC don’t have an independent integrity commissioner; similar instances of discrimination are addressed by councillors themselves - some of whom may be the perpetrators. 5/7

The #BreakingBarriers report identified how councils can address discrimination and harassment, including adopting equitable caretaker leave, accommodation, and compensation policies. We’ll be watching to see whether @CityofVancouver takes action on these recommendations. 4/7

A recent report from @ClimateLC & @SchoolFeminist found that “women and gender minorities face persistent barriers to participating in elected office in addition to ongoing abuse and harassment by their colleagues, city staff, and the public.” 3/7 localrepresentation.ca/

This discrimination is rampant across local government resulting in women & gender-minorities being pushed out of elected positions & leading to policies that don’t meet the needs of equity-deserving groups + a lack of progress on issues like childcare/gender-based violence. 2/7

Vancouver’s Integrity Commissioner found that Mayor Sim discriminated against Park Board Commissioner Laura Christensen (a new mother at home with a newborn) on the basis of gender & family status, by refusing to allow virtual attendance to a meeting. vancouversun.com/news/local-… 1/7

I'm not on this site much anymore but for anyone who still is, please call/email your representatives and demand a ceasefire. Gaza has no food or water. Hospitals are being bombed. Over 11,000 innocent civilians are dead. Please also sign this petition: petitions.ourcommons.ca/en/P…
With the situation in #Gaza growing more desperate by the day, Canadian politicians have an urgent responsibility to call for a #CeasefireNow. We’ve put together an easy-to-use toolkit for you to call, email, and tweet at your MP & Cabinet Ministers 👉 docs.google.com/document/d/1…

It’s because I was horrified by the murder of Israeli civilians that I’m so appalled by Israel’s genocidal violence against Palestinians. People are people. “Never again” is for everyone. An eye for an eye isn’t justice. Genocide for an eye is a crime against humanity.

Help us hold the elected leaders who enthusiastically pledged to implement these eight policies accountable for follow-through and read about how we analyzed council motions. womentransformingcities.org/…

The Hot Pink Paper Campaign 1-Year Progress Report shows that @VanGreens and @OneCityVan Councillors are on track, but @Vote4ABC decisions have repeatedly delayed, blocked, or directly contradicted their HPPC commitments on climate justice, community safety, and housing. #VanPoli

This Council is moving in the wrong direction. The communities who shaped our Hot Pink Paper Campaign policy pledges are all too often excluded from city hall. When politicians make promises to these groups, they deserve accountability accountability and transparency.

Just a thought. But maybe we should renew the leases on our existing temporary modular housing, and make it faster and easier to build new supportive housing. #Vancouver #HomelessCount #HousingCrisis
The City of Vancouver has hit a new all-time high in its annual homeless count (which was cancelled the previous two years due to the pandemic). In total, 2,420 people were recorded, a 16% increase from 2020.
