On average, I spend a 3-4 hours working diligently on a paper review, and maybe a couple of days thinking about it. Sometimes more or less. It is an important part of being a scientist. Then I submit it and the journal “thanks” me by offering a 30% discount on their books? Blegh.

I was mortified (but not surprised) last night to see college students gathering at the bars in droves to celebrate their “early” spring break. I guess they think they are invincible, but what about their parents and families when they return home and all their fellow travelers?
