How do you initiate cultural shifts in a patriarchal society?
Team talk is a project that uses sport as a medium to break down social and gender barriers.
@EndeavourMed
@f_h_africa
The project comes at the request and invitation of the communities who would like support in cultural shifts such as:
Girls staying in school and not being married in exchange for cattle
Boys only taking one wife
Alternative rights of passage for female circumcision.
Our Kenyan team specialise in community and cultural education. They ask probing questions to our participants including:
Should a girl be expelled if she gets pregnant?
Should girls inherit land from their parents?
Does female circumcision cause problems in child birth.
Today #teamtalk focuses on team work, trust and mutual respect.
The relationship between men and women is complex in the Maasai tribe with deep seated cultural beliefs.
Elders have requested assistance in keeping girls in school and preventing young marriages.

How do we make sports events more sustainable?
I did a 70.3 @IRONMANtri event yesterday and couldn’t believe how much plastic waste we created.
What is the solution?

All @f_h_africa join others in deploring the #UKAidcuts and their impact on those most in need and hopes @FCDOGovUK will think again
Looking forward to hearing you talk about this @markbritnell
This is both an excellent and alarming article and shows the dangers of looking simply at medical workforce numbers when doctors (and other clinicians) are truly fatigued. Look forward to discussing this #InConversation @RoySocMed next week theguardian.com/society/2021… @denis_campbell

Nakuprat-Gotu Community Conservancy, a member of @NRT_Kenya, had a successful launch of the Beisa Oryx project - a new initiative that seeks to engage the local community to conserve the Beisa Oryx.
This project is supported by @IUCNsos and co-funded by @EU_Partnerships.
It is so important we keep putting pressure on our political leaders to support #Covax.

Mental Health is an important consideration in any remote environment or on expedition, both of the participants and you as the expedition medic.
What is your role? Are you the medic, a leader, the friend, the confidante or all of the above?
.... And who is looking out for you?
We work closely with @BAS_News doctors who share their experiences managine this challenging balance.
@annepenguina gives an insightful and honest discussion; accepting that everyone has different coping mechanisms, and the importance of establishing some form of support network.
