In this alternative reality, the opposition leader who is out of power fleeing into exile, and the father who is in prison are the authoritarians. And the guy who controls all security forces of the state, the electoral system, and largely the media through state subsidies, and who ordered a travel ban on his opponent within seven minutes of being declared the winner of the presidential election after having his former lawyer acting as judge extend the closure of the polls and suspend the counting for two hours is the democratic man representing the will of the people.
Please follow @AOC for more daily comedy and satire.
Yesterday, Brazil showed the world that the will of the people is stronger than the authoritarians who try to suppress it. Congratulations President @LulaOficial and congratulations Brazil.

Timeline in Brazil's election:
1) Polls opened at 8:00 a.m, to close at 5:00 p.m.
2) Left-wing President Luiz In谩cio Lula da Silva was interviewed at 1:00 p.m., clearly distraught at how the election was unfolding.
3) Supreme Court Justice Cristiano Zanin extended the vote time two additional hours at exactly 4:57 p.m...three(3) minutes before polling was to close. Very important context is that Justice Zanin is President Luiz In谩cio Lula da Silva's personal attorney. Additionally, it is the first time in Brazil's history that an election has been extended. Additionally, many of the smaller precincts didn't get the message until they were already closed. This heavily, heavily benefited the sitting president as with all leftists, his concentration of voters are in urban areas. Precincts favorable to the president stayed open while they allowed those favorable to the opposition to close before communicating that vote times had been extended.
Certainly nothing sketchy there. 馃憤
4) Vote publications were halted at 5:20 p.m. and brought back online at 7:00 p.m.
Now where have we seen that before?
5) President Luiz In谩cio Lula da Silva is declared the winner at 9:10 p.m.

Honestly, I couldn't care less about Brazilian politics.
But I find it interesting to note how my former college professors equate democracy with a victory for the left. In other words, if the left loses, it's not democracy.
Homeschool your children.

Yesterday, Lula ostensibly became the first person since Brazil's return to democracy to win a fourth term in office. This is just three weeks after the country elected its most right wing legislature ever.
It was the first time a candidate has lost the first round and gone on to win the presidency, and the first time that turnout in the second round has exceeded turnout in the first.
Also unprecedented was the Supreme Court's last minute extension of voting hours. That decision was made by key Lula ally Alexandre de Moraes, who has now seized the passport of Lula's opponent after imprisoning his predecessor.
British media's response to all of this? Bovine silence. Brazil is a famously corrupt country. Honesty should not be the expectation. It may be that Lula's victory was legitimate: it is certainly not obvious that it was. How will we know if nobody asks the questions?
Remember this disinterest the next time that you hear a British journalist tell you about the importance of their role in 'protecting democracy' and 'speaking truth to power'. They have zero interest in either objective, and we should take zero notice of their words.

Look who鈥檚 organising the 20 November student protests in the UK.
The Muslim Brotherhood, via Palestine Action and Antifa. These are coordinated groups that want disorder on our streets.

Everyone should have their eyes on France right now and ask themselves a question: is the far right really the main threat we should be worried about?
I don鈥檛 say this in defence of the coke-fuelled racist morons who masquerade as patriots whilst throwing Nazi salutes at their Antifa rivals.
But politicians, particularly on the left, talk incessantly about the dangers of the far right, while seeming remarkably reluctant to confront the extremism in their own political ranks.
Yet look at what鈥檚 happening on the streets of France. Look at what happens when the far left is let off the leash.
It鈥檚 clear much of the radical left is fundamentally hostile to Western civilisation and the institutions that sustain it. Capitalism, free markets, private enterprise, private property - all are regarded as obstacles to be dismantled.
And look at the alliances they make. The political left will march alongside groups whose values ought to be anathema to them, provided they share a common enemy. Consider the solidarity between some Greens and Islamists. Politically, they have precious little in common beyond their hostility to aspects of Western society.
And in France, we see the physical manifestation of grievance politics, identity politics and the relentless division of society into oppressors and oppressed. The politics of resentment, envy and anger.
So look at France and ask yourself: do we really want that kind of political anger and disorder flourishing in Britain?
Because the politics of division and grievance are already deeply embedded in our own society.
It鈥檚 long overdue that we had a serious debate about the values, freedoms and standards of civilised behaviour we want to preserve.
We should be equally prepared to confront extremism whether it comes from the left or the right, rather than treating one as inherently more dangerous than the other.
And we certainly shouldn鈥檛 wait until our own streets are burning before recognising the danger.

Politicians eventually respond to the electorate they create. If more and more people become dependent on the state, politics inevitably becomes about protecting and expanding that dependency. We are caught in a doom loop of politicians chasing the vote of the workless class, making policies which destroy the working class.
