This is nothing but religious persecution. I had an Amish best friend until she and her daughter were killed by an 18 year old boy who was driving recklessly and hit their horse and buggy while they were coming home from the grocery store. These people live their beliefs. They are kind and loving. Most of them are also poor. They work hard and live off of the land or work with their hands in construction or workshops as craftsmen. The women are the hardest working women in the world. Amish are not Mennonites. People confuse them. Amish don’t drive or have electricity or telephones. They don’t have refrigerators or modern conveniences. They live like pioneers. Their children work alongside their parents. They are pretty strict with the children. Especially about toys. I brought some of my children’s toys to my friends children, (she had eight) and after they had them a few days, she made me take them back. The kids didn’t want to do their work. They wanted to play with the toys. The Amish depend on their children’s help. They can’t afford to hire help. Some communities are more strict than others and they have different rules. Each has their own Ordnung. It governs their Bible interpretations and how they dress. If they can have tobacco. Basically, everything in the community. Nearly all will not allow photos. My friend’s son got caught with a camera and he was taking pictures and selling them. They kicked him out of the community with a shunning. His own parents couldn’t even see him. That’s how serious they take their beliefs. They do not want outsiders polluting their children. I counted myself and husband and children to be blessed to have been welcomed into this community. It was a gift. The first day I met Barbara Shetler, we had gone to their home to buy some tomatoes. Unfortunately, I didn’t know anything much about Amish then. My two daughters were wearing shorts. It caused quite a ruckus amongst her boys. Immediately, Barb started speaking in German to her husband and children about it. I was so embarrassed. Because my grandparents had spoke German and I had taken it in school, I knew what she was saying. I instantly apologized. Barbara was so confounded that I understood her, she did a complete turnaround. We had found common ground. The rest is history. Needless to say, the girls never wore shorts around them anymore. As for what’s going on in New York, there is always some power mad individual trying to instigate their will above everyone else’s. Unfortunately, there are always sheep ready to follow. They would do anything for money, power and property. This Democratic State is a disgrace and an example of the future under their leadership as they go down the Socialist Party rabit hole.
