Extremely proud to be on the MMF team > decades of work by @QueenofMantas and @MarineMegafauna has led to MMF’s ‘spiritual home’ in Mozambique receiving major international recognition 😭🐳💙💙

It’s just a myth that whale sharks are rarely seen together - they aggregate in sometimes huge constellations like this to feed >
THREAD. Whale sharks were only discovered by Western scientists in 1828. Until the 1980s, there had only been a few hundred encounters with the species. Even Jacques Cousteau only ever saw two. These days, we've identified a few areas where they gather in major constellations.

Ahh WOW - the art, the thoughtfulness of the thread 😭 I just love the people in this space 💙
It is with our absolute pleasure to announce and welcome @betty_nft, founder of @Deadfellaznft, as an @alphagirlclub honorary! 🧵🪡

Having an art curator bestie has never been so handy. She just sent me this absolute gem > How to write an artist statement – The Creative Independent thecreativeindependent.com/g…
When hunting, a thresher shark's tail moves so quickly that it lowers the pressure in front of it, causing the water to boil. Tail slaps can lash out at up to 80km/h and some fish is hit directly in the attacks, while others are killed by the pressure wave ow.ly/xBfo30nnpaP

He's not perfect...my first time doing this pattern. But I think he's rather cute. Headed to a little guy's home soon. #hammerhead #shark #crochet

One of my favourite encounters, she was sooooo sweet 🥺🥰. It’s great to meet new sharky creators in the NFT space, who care for our oceans as much as I do. 💙
Want to know what you are supporting when you buy @SaltySharksNFT #NFTs? Look at this gorgeous Leopard Shark off the coast of Byron Bay. Super inquisitive and loved @madsocean - kept coming back to her. TY for sharing Mads & #NFTcollection #NFTCommunity ©@simonpierce

She's so big! I've been working on the @MarineMegafauna annual report and as always the images are insane. Unsure this really counts as work tbh.

Our non-profit received an @artblocks_io grant, and we’ve been so inspired by their creativity we’re experimenting with our Whale Shark tracking data to create NFT’s. Is it possible that NFT’s can help save a species? 1/3

Saving a species takes time, so you need consistent funding to see it through. A successful conservation NFT project could help provide sustainable funding. Special thanks to @carlypreilly and @betty_nft who’s pod convo really put the pieces together for me. 2/3

So, I see NFT’s as a way to create a conservation #UBI, freeing high impact orgs from restrictive traditional funding models so they can innovate and think long term. Thoughts? 3/3

Loving these interviews. In this clip (in thread!) Sofia explains why she tracks whale sharks.
Great new members chat with @simonpierce (📷) and our friend Sofia Green, a scientist with the Galapagos Whale Shark Project, about her work tracking adult whale sharks in the eastern Pacific Ocean. Lots of cutting-edge #whaleshark science in this one! marinemegafauna.org/member-s…
