The best time to fight a wildfire is before it starts.
Prescribed burning, or beneficial fire, is an important part of wildfire prevention. By intentionally reintroducing fire under carefully managed conditions, we help reduce the buildup of dry grass, brush, and other vegetation that can fuel larger, more destructive wildfires.
Reducing excess vegetation helps create healthier, more resilient landscapes, supports natural ecosystem processes, and can help slow the spread of future wildfires.
As cooler weather returns and conditions allow, prescribed burns will take place across California to reduce hazardous fuels and support long-term wildfire resilience.
📍Recently, @CALFIRE_ButteCo, in partnership with @CAStateParks and the @CA_DWR, conducted a prescribed burn at Loafer Creek State Recreation Area in east Oroville, treating 86 acres to reduce hazardous fuels and help protect the surrounding community.
