CAMPAIGN: Check back for our lightening campaign - to try to ensure that the government's earned settlement proposals don't doom 90,000 children to poverty as collateral to the 'optics' they want to create on migration. Children in working families, British Children. CHILDREN!
The EPI report food poverty blights:
• 24% households with children under the age of five. • 39% households with a child under five and an adult with a disability.
• 1 in 2 single-parent households with children under five.
The definition of a failing system.

Jane from @magpieprojectuk opened with a great speech about their work with families in temporary and insecure housing. Despite an increasingly precarious backdrop small charities are still standing, still standing up and are there for people who have nowhere else to go

Lovely to meet with my friends from @magpieprojectuk last week in Parliament, to discuss support for children growing up in poverty, and particularly families in the asylum system.
The Magpie Project is on the frontline, supporting mums and little ones through the housing crisis. When they began, over 200 families in Newham were in temporary accommodation or B&Bs without kitchens- today, that number is just 5.
Every child deserves security and stability - thank you to the team at The Magpie Project for all you do 💜

This Mother's day many lucky mums will be getting a lie in, breakfast in bed, a nice lunch out maybe.
Magpie mums will be dreaming of a bed, enough to eat, and housing that is not damaging their children's health.
Donate the price of a bunch of flowers to help us help them.

Some people think that homeless people are living in luxury hotels but they are not. See @guardian at theguardian.com/society/2024… The homeless suffer, the taxpayer pays & the landlords profiteer. NRPF is pushing migrants into poverty & failing in its own policy objectives, new analysis shows.
208,000 households covered by an NRPF condition are at risk of needing support to avoid destitution & 64,000 households are in poverty.
The impacts are especially stark in London..

ALT A quote from Alex Sutton, director of grants at trust for London, that says: It’s astonishing that over 2m people living and working in our communities, including people providing essential services, don’t have equal access to the same safety net that the rest of us can rely on when we need it most.
