there's evidence that the use of AI in schools is delivering the opposite of "intellectual flourishing"—maybe in some bubbles the use of these models is leading to more reading and philosophical debates but I'm inclined to think that's an exception to the rule

When you upload an image to a language model, it gets processed as tokens, just like words do! Model providers control exactly how many these are processed as, and it depends on size - larger providers are almost exactly 1000 words for standard image sizes!
