Less than half an hour to go for my FDFS of #Jailer2 at #Bengaluru #AMB cinemas(#Dolby screen).
Cannot remember the last time I awoke so early for a film.
The hype has gradually built up with solid insider reports and it's impossible to not get a bit swept up in it. Superstar #Rajinikanth has entertained us for more than 5 decades and we greedily expect him to deliver one more time, every single time. Let's go!!

I'm quite thrilled about this news. I mean no disrespect to #Avatar which was a very good film and a jaw-dropping technical accomplishment. I just feel that #AvengersEndgame is more deserving of this all-time crown.
Let me jot-down my reasons for feeling this way.
#Endgame was the culmination to 11 years and 22 films of insanely HIGH QUALITY storytelling. By that, I mean even the absolute worst #MCU film of this era was at least decent/watchable. The good ones were truly GREAT. It is only post Endgame that the #Marvel brand took a hit with way too much content flooding our screens and timelines. It was a classic case of watering down the brand by prioritizing quantity over quality and this is something that the top Marvel bosses themselves acknowledged. That, however is a different conversation.
Coming back to Endgame, I still remember the hype, hoopla and euphoria surrounding it's release. In my near 3-decades of following cinema, I haven't seen a film generate more hype or want-to-see-ASAP enthusiasm.
The secrecy surrounding the content was insane and rightfully so. It's predecessor #AvengersInfinityWar ended on a wicked cliffhanger that had the fans salivating over what would come next. No one could wait and details of the possible plot flew around like wild conspiracy theories.
As we got close to the D-day, getting the FDFS tickets to avoid spoilers became a solemn responsibility. I remember fighting for hours online in the middle of the night to get my tickets. The site simply crashed, unable to take the load.
To top it all, EVERY SINGLE SCREEN in my city was playing the film without exception. A phenomenon I hadn't seen before and haven't seen since. I'd imagine it was similar in many other cities around the world because Endgame's global opening weekend grosses were TWICE as much as the previous best.. and has remained untouchable ever since. (Yes the new #Spiderman movie came close, but nothing else was even remotely in the vicinity.)
The best part? The content lived up to the hype. It surpassed the wildest fantasies of every fanboy and delivered a nuclear blast filled with shocking plot-twists and euphoric surprises. I'll never forget the claps, whistles, laughs, cheers and tears in my emotionally charged FDFS experience. Everyone in the room went home with a sore throat from screaming so loud. It remains, till date, the GREATEST EVER theatrical experience of my life.
Nothing can top it. Ever. Yes, I'm sure #AvengersDoomsday will be good. Possibly even great.. but the Endgame phenomenon was an unsurpassable event worthy of fairytales and folklore. An immortal moment etched in time. You simply had to be there.
Ps- For those saying re-release grosses shouldn't count, did you know that Endgame organically beat Avatar's grosses in it's original run in 2019? It held the title for a couple of years before the latter was re-released and the crown was lost. So, if you remove re-release grosses for both films, Endgame still comes out on top.

Travelled all the way from #Chennai to experience @CinemasBroadway in #Coimbatore. They house multiple premium formats under one roof including #IMAX and #EPIQ. I want to focus on the latter in this post because I was pleasantly taken aback by the size of that BEHEMOTH. I daresay this particular EPIQ looked and felt bigger than both IMAX screens in Chennai and I've attached a short video for proof.👇
I was also fortunate enough to catch a film which did full justice to this GIANT screen- #Mandaadi. The picture quality was pristine and the aspect ratio was adjusted to ensure there was no image loss, meaning, there were no black bars on the top and bottom and the image filled every nook and corner of the screen.
Now, a few words about #Mandadi.
Worthy of the crazy raves and deserving of it's blockbuster numbers, it is indisputably the BEST tamil film of the year so far.
Shot with jaw-dropping mastery at sea and matching that magnificence with a moving story on land, this is that rare film which perfectly balances power with pathos and spectacle with sentiment.
The screenplay throws up some familiar dramatic beats but the moral conundrums are delicate and delicious. Multiple talented actors ace their parts but the biggest revelation here is the protagonist himself- #Soori . He spent nearly two decades as a comedian before transitioning into a very capable lead actor. I mean, you could count on him to proficiently push the story forward. Here however, he CARRIES the film.. with rare swagger and glorious gravitas. His rage and intensity nearly melted that giant screen. 🔥 👏

$2.2 Billion with possibly another $300 million left in the tank. Enough for an all-time top 3 finish. Let those numbers sink in for a moment.
This deeply emotional, powerfully cathartic and hugely heartfelt film is a triumphant return to the form and formula that made @MarvelStudios an invincible global force. #InfinityWar and #Endgame exploded the way they did not just because of the (top-notch) spectacle or (immaculate) world-building. It's because we cared so much about the characters and were inextricably invested in their fates.
We've had some truly great films from #Marvel/#MCU even in the post-Endgame era but there has also been a tendency get caught up in the exhausting vastness of the multiverse. Somehow that seemed to come at the expense of fleshing out these characters and making us root for them.
#SpiderMan BND almost feels like a back-to-the-basics course correction. It tells a contained, charater-focused, cracker of a story that discards the complicated machinations of the multiverse. I laughed, cheered and wiped away the occasional tear.
Please, more like this Marvel, more like this.

#TheOdyssey is the MOVIE OF THE YEAR. A Paradigm-shifting IMAX Epic with jaw-dropping command over craft. A profoundly spiritual and achingly powerful paragon powered by a pioneer at the peak of his prowess.
At this point, I don't feel it's an exaggeration or an embellishment to label Mr. #ChristopherNolan as the greatest filmmaker of all time. His body of work, even prior to this project, was an extraordinary embarrassment of riches.
Here, he takes a mythological epic which is fantastical by nature and roots it in deeply primal existentialism. A lesser director would have given us a popcorn-powered, VFX-heavy spectacle(Nothing wrong in that).. but #Nolan's ambition never allows him to settle for low-hanging fruit.
Right throughout the film, it isn't just #Odysseus who goes on this epic journey, it's us too. I cannot speak for everyone of course, but I found parts of the film to be so spiritual and so deeply liberating that it took hours for me to exit that headspace and snap back into reality.
Unlike some of Mr. Nolan's earlier works this isn't an intensely cerebral film which challenges your comprehension. Everyone can follow the story but the layers are so dense that it'll lead to hours and hours of delicious dissections.
Technically, what's on screen is an absolute marvel. Filmed with mininal CGI and an adamant reliance on practical effects and live locations, the output speaks for itself. The score and camera work are aces but the latter is an absolute benchmark.
The performances are top-notch across the board. The material is so rich that some truly great acting moments almost go unnoticed. I'd be surprised if #MattDamon and #AnneHathaway aren't already locked in for an #Oscar nomination.
We've had a few surprise super-hits this year with a soft showing from some sure-shot blockbuster brands. Thankfully, Mr. Nolan remains as reliable as ever with his magic and mastery.
Simply put, this is an unmissable #IMAX event.
THIS. THIS. THIS is the reason why we go to the movies. 5/5

HOT RECOMMENDATION!
#Disney-#Pixar's #Hoppers is a cannon-blast of colour, chaos and creativity delivered with clinical command over craft.
Unlike some of the studio's classics like #Ratatouille, #InsideOut out and #Coco, this isn't a film that threatens your tear ducts or lands emotional punches to the gut. Instead, it's content to be a zippy, zany comedy that consistently aces both slapstick and highbrow humour.
Animation as a medium naturally lends itself to unbridled, unhinged storytelling and here's a film that makes full use of it's versatility. This is sure to play like gangbusters to packed cinema halls with the adults likely guffawing much harder than the kids.
Cheekily ripping off #Avatar's core concept of transferring the consciousness to another body, this smart screenplay blends biblical themes, brave beavers and one diabolical caterpillar in a fabulous eco-friendly fable. 4.25/5

Caught up with the #MankathaReRelease. I don't want to review a 15-year old blockbuster but couldn't resist sharing some thoughts.👇
I think there's no other film quite like #Mankatha in the history of Indian cinema. That's a bold claim to make, isn't it? Hear me out.
The most obvious reason for me to say so would be because the "hero" is actually a despicable villain.. very uncommon.. right? Not quite.
You see, nearly all our beloved superstars would have played a villain at least once in their careers.. but it comes with a catch. They've only ever slotted into one of the three following sets.
FIRST SET- This "villain" will be a ruffian/law-breaker but will have some redeeming quality.. something sweet or good or a larger selfless cause which will justify those transgressions. They might even have a conscience and give in to relationships and sentimentality.
SECOND SET- They could be all black, totally unlikeable and irredeemable.. but in those cases the same superstar will quell the negativity and villainy of this character by playing another character who opposes him with righteous vigour. The famed double role. History is littered with many such examples.
THIRD SET- IF the villain played by a superstar doesn't slot into either of the first two sets, here's a less common third set. The wickedness and cruelty will have a price. The character will pay either with his life or will lose everything in the end with karma catching up and punishing him for his misdeeds.
Then there's the gloriously unique Vinayak from Mankatha.
He does everything a big mass hero must never do.
-He cheats on his girlfriend in a drunken daze.
-Spouts lies in the name of love and uses her for personal gain.
-Drinks endlessly and smokes like a chimney.
-Has no morals and ethics and is totally fine double crossing and killing those who trust him.
-Bad mouths women in the most vile and shocking way.
- Shamelessly materialistic and wants to get rich without working for it. Also slips into an unhinged frenzy, the kind which film characters do before meeting their doom.
..And amazingly, he gets away with it.. all of it. He wins. There's no justice for the good folks he hurts or kills.
There are no parallels for this in our cinema. Shocking to think of, even today.
This is unfair on so many levels but the film works because of the conviction and raw charisma with which #AjithKumar plays this character. Man, he sells the hell out of it.
The sheer nerve to take up such a film as your milestone 50th demands a separate deconstruction. You can like the film or hate it but you gotta marvel at the sheer audacity of #ThalaAjith. Kudos to #VenkatPrabhu for not flinching/giving in to cliché and sticking the landing.👏👌
..and oh. How can I not mention the grey hair. Again, Ajith lead the way. "I'm a mass hero but I'm 40 and I have grey hair. Deal with it."
Pioneering. Iconic.🔥

The producers have officially shared that #Parasakthi has entered the 100 crore gross club worldwide, the first tamil film to do so in 2026. This might still be construed as an underperformance by some people who had higher expectations from the film but I do not want to take this impressive number for granted.
The reason for that is simple. I do not know when and from where the next sure-shot 100 crore grosser is gonna come from for Kollywood. With #JanaNayagan caught up in trouble and turmoil there's no other film on the immediate horizon guaranteed to reach/surpass this number. So let's just acknowledge how rare/precious it is.👍
I've been reading posts all over X praising #SivaKartikeyan's box office consistency and I couldn't agree more. He reportedly has 5 films in the 100 crore club and 10 which crossed 50 crore within Tamilnadu. Those stats are TERRIFIC for someone who is just 25 films old and has been in the industry for less than 15 years.👏👌
With all due respect to his peers and seniors these numbers are nearly unparalleled for a tier-2 star. Tamil cinema needs more such bankable actors who pull in minimum guarantee numbers irrespective of product quality.
I hope #Amaran's 300 crore plus gross wasn't an outlier or a fluke. I'm backing #SK to replicate it's success and someday breach the elite Tier-1 club which is already thinly populated and under threat of losing a valued member. For now, let's just appreciate how remarkably reliable @Siva_Kartikeyan has been.👍

#AvatarFireAndAsh has already climbed up to #24 on the list of highest grossing films of all time. Could easily crack the top 15 by the time it completes it's run. All the hand-wringing done about these #Avatar movies not having a big enough cultural footprint/online presence(like #StarWars or the #MCU) is restricted to a very vocal minority.
The larger general audience who frequent movies don't care deeply about the opinions of film pundits, nerds and geeks. They've shown up in MASSIVE numbers for all 3 of these films. The reason for that is simple. These movies offer BIG eye-popping IMAX spectacle, the scale of which still remains rare. It also helps that the storytelling is almost always engaging with solid emotional beats.
If you live somewhere with access to an #IMAX screen go catch the film before it's too late. We are not realising just how good we have it and how we're taking @JimCameron's crazy hard work and mind-numbing mastery for granted. #JamesCameron @zoesaldana
