The UN General Assembly is holding an Interactive Dialogue with #Türkiye's candidate for the post of UN secretary-general, former foreign minister & current @OSCE head Feridun Sinirlioğlu. @hrw wasn't chosen to ask a question. If we had been, this is what I would have asked.

Voters elected a majority of Democrats to control both the House and the Senate in the US midterm elections. The newly elected US Congress should prioritize respect and protection for human rights both within the United States and around the world: hrw.org/news/2026/11/04/us-n…

A good day for democracy, with big wins in Serbia and Brazil. Israel could be next on Tuesday, then the US midterms the following week. The best case against the autocrats is the autocrats (and how they govern with corrupt self-promotion). trib.al/l5x6pNO

As #SouthKorea's National Assembly debates medication abortion regulations, they should ensure safe, affordable, and accessible abortion care for all women and girls. Delayed or restricted access can undermine the rights to health, privacy, and autonomy. hrw.org/news/2026/10/25/sout…

Vietnam is suppressing independent trade unions and the right to organize. By enabling artificially low labor costs, Vietnamese companies are allowed unfair trade advantages. As To Lam, President of Vietnam and Communist Party General Secretary, visits the European Union, trading partners need to make one thing clear: broken pledges will carry consequences. The European Parliament has awarded the Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought to the International Criminal Court and its officials. This prize should be a rallying cry for ICC members to stand up for the court and for the EU Commission to urgently activate the EU’s "blocking statute" to protect the court and those supporting its work from effects of US sanctions.

25 years on, and still no genuine justice or redress for war crimes and other grave abuses in Afghanistan since the war began on October 7, 2001. Successive US administrations have swept grave abuses under the rug, leaving those most affected with neither compensation nor justice. In a new timeline, HRW compiles reporting on the conflict ⤵️ hrw.org/news/2026/10/04/afgh…

Classic Israeli government disinformation -- it can't refute the devastating testimony of Israeli soldiers shown in the real NAZA film, revealing a callous indifference to Palestinian civilian life in Gaza, so it tries to fool people with a deceptive film. teapaw.org/loffredojeremy/status/…

Weak rules governing lethal AI weaponry could have significant consequences. The practical impact is stark: more civilian harm, less accountability and a faster slide into riskier, automated warfare. Good to talk with the @washingtonpost this week. wapo.st/4yWadkR
