Risk v Reward Playing Forward A little look into Alex's Assist yesterday for Jack Moylan's incredible opener & it shows why consistent 121 Analysis is so important to keep pushing progressive play. From the minute the ball is switched: - Scan for Moylan - Adjusting Positioning - Adjusting Body-Shape When it's with the left-back Scanlon, you can see some of the things that can be negative & why I believe the 121 Performance Analysis we do really works: - Don't Point Unless "Stuck" - Looks for "Outball" to RCB - Could Have Received Negatively and Switched But because Alex has so many demands from an excellent coach, demands from himself & then has me in his ear constantly about breaking lines: - Receives Forward - Plays with Head-Up - Takes the Risk - Gets the Reward A "Stat-Padding" Assist is fair, as it's an incredible strike but there are so many midfielders that would have played a safer option in 3 different moments. There is a reason Alex Robertson is in the Top-3 for all progressive play in the Championship.

Pompey Goal Disallowed I feel like every single game, I am seeing defenders going down under minimal pressure & being consistently given freekicks for it. I didn't think there was much, if any, contact from Segecic and at the absolute worst, its a slight touch on the back as he's moving out the way... for the player to then take 2 more steps and slip forward. Same with ball in the corner, as soon as a defender feels even the slightest, they just fall on the ball.

Progressing the Play in Midfield Ignoring the transition from CAM to CDM or from League One to Championship with Cardiff City & just focussing on his quality under Brian Barry-Murphy. Far too many central midfielders are risk-averse, sideways passers & very restricted technically with minimal passing range. Alex Robertson is none of that, playing as a 6 isn't as flashy and comes with less direct goal involvements than playing higher but you can still contribute massively if you are aggressive: - Most Completed Passes in Champ - 2nd Highest CM Prog Passer in Champ - 3rd Highest Overall Prog Passer in Champ - 148 Line-Breaking Passes - 21 Chances Created (5 Big Chances) Alex is developing at every turn, on pitch & off pitch. I have been blown away by his attention to detail, his desire to be better & commitment to his extra analysis with myself to push himself. It's been a real shame seeing Cardiff struggling with a small newly promoted squad and a ridiculous injury crisis at the back or they'd have more points on the board already.
