While some may try to write this off as just how politics works now, ballot-stacking should have no place in our electoral process. Run and win on your merits: your views, your policy ideas, and your accomplishments. By contrast, recruiting candidates to manipulate the field and influence voting outcomes is simply wrong. This won’t play well with swing voters. Doesn’t matter that it’s all legal. Here’s how it reads to a regular person:
They didn’t think they could win fairly, so they did a bunch of backroom dealing to stack the odds, hoping no one would find out.
If it’s not accurate, they better get concrete evidence out there in a hurry. The denial statements to the Times won’t cut it.
