Dolly Parton: My daddy told me that the Imagination Library probably was the most important thing I'd ever done. Inspiring kids to love to read became my mission. In the beginning my hope was simply to inspire the children in my home county, but here we are today with a worldwide program that gives a book a month to over a million children.

Deeply saddened by the news of Dolly Parton’s death. In Scotland, her Imagination Library inspired a love of reading and provided thousands of free books for children. Her warmth, generosity and her music were truly one of a kind. My thoughts are with her family and friends.

Haven’t been in any doubt for a couple years that a flat vote right now would be a yes. A decent campaign and I think it could be 65%.

Was the “national security” issue “make sure Scotland doesn’t get this because the more energy they generate the more likely it is they’ll go independent”?
✅ The Chinese super-embassy in central London has now been cleared for construction. ❌ Earlier this year, Labour blocked a £1.5bn turbine plant in the Highlands, costing up to 1,500 jobs, claiming it was about "national security". ❓ If one is too risky, why isn't the other?

Yknow that face you make when you eat a really sour gooseberry or a lemon drop? That’s how hard this made me cringe.

If you are a journalist who's has information about a politician but sits on it until such time it can be leveraged to your favoured party's advantage rather than publish it immediately, then you're not a journalist. You're serving someone's interest but it isn't the public's.

I will accept Nigel Farage’s request to be appointed Steward and Bailiff of the Manor of Northstead. It is a farce and a desperate distraction, and the people of Clacton deserve better. But if he wants to spend the summer arguing with a bin, I won't stop him.

Andy Burnham has written to Scots offering "greater public control" of water. Water is already nationalised in Scotland. Scotland deserves better than copy-and-paste PMs. snp.org/andy-burnhams-lazy-c…

Labour are clearly pushing their allies in the unions to back their usurpation of devolution in Scotland. But we MUST replace the council tax. My draft bill last year on devolution of tax raising powers to councils would (imho) be a good way to do so.
The @GMB_union has released a report showing the scale of council tax debt across Scotland. This is a sign of a broken system. The STUC is calling for urgent council tax reform. Read the report: gmb.org.uk/news/at-least-1.5…

Because despite the council tax being terrible in many ways, in defiance of the laws of man and nature & all reason, if Labour do impose something else on us from London, it will, unaccountably, be worse. They will manage somehow to actually make it worse.

We have a limited window therefore on the centre/left in Scotland to stop arguing the basic premise and quibbling over which of a dozen options we should go for, and just pick one and get on with it, before burnham tries to impose some London-centric boneheaded mess on us.
