Bishop Varden comments on his time at the Amoris Laetitia conference & possibility of Holy Communion for divorced/re-married: “A principal pastoral concern in such situations is to recall the bigger picture, letting sufferers discover the potentially productive sense of their troubles, which may serve to lessen selfishness and purify love. Marriage, no less than monastic life, is a school of conversion. Concerning ‘irregular’ relationships, I find our Catholic communities normally embrace these maturely and well. It can be liberating for persons in such situations to be in a setting where their ‘irregularity’ is acknowledged, not relativised; and where they are yet embraced with Christian friendship, enabled to contribute to the community. I think of the example of many faithful people I know who, Sunday after Sunday, come up for a blessing at the time of Communion, knowing they cannot accede to the sacrament, yet entrusting themselves to God’s mercy at work in the Church. Their example of fidelity does much to build up the Christian community. It testifies to the vital realism of the sacrament and to the virtue of hope. Sacramental exile sustained over time can prepare a joyful homecoming. Christ gave us his rigorous commandments to educate us and to liberate us from ourselves, ‘that we might live no longer for ourselves but for him who died and rose again for us’ (Fourth Eucharistic Prayer). His intention is to make us grow in stature into new, divinised life. That life must always be the aim we propose to people, not merely human affirmation — though we all need a bit of that as well.”

#VoyageApostolique #France

Saint Augustine perfectly describes mad trads: “You’ll find people grumbling about their times and saying that the times of our parents were good. Suppose, though, they could be whisked back to the times of their parents, they would still grumble even then.”

Tommaso and Pina gave a testimony today in front of Pope Leo in Pompei - one that should be a lesson for the whole world. A leason of unconditional love. They are married for 24 years and are parents of two children: a 17-year-old and a 4-year-old. After a few years of marriage they learned that they can’t have biological children but they said „the Lord transformed this fragility of ours into a vocation.” In 2008, they learned through a report in the media „that an unrecognized newborn, without limbs, had been left in a hospital in Campania; he had been named Matteo, a gift from God.” „We didn't hesitate to contact the hospital,” Tommaso said today, on the feast of Our Lady of Pompei, adding that once the documentation in the juvenile court was completed „We were the ones who received that gift: Matteo became our son!” „On his first birthday, we decided to entrust Matteo to Our Lady of Pompeii with a Mass celebrated right here.” In 2022, on the occasion of World Family Day, Tomasso and Pina were invited to Pompeii for the Regional Family Meeting. On that occasion, a married couple, Roberta and Alfredo, responsible for the "Oasi Vergine del Sorriso" family home at the Shrine of Pompeii, shared their experience. They had a newborn baby with them, Tomasso said, adding: „we looked at her and immediately understood that she was a special child. We went to meet the baby several times at the family home; there, Roberta told us that Maria had been abandoned in the hospital at birth.” Maria was suffering from what doctors diagnosed as terminal illness, giving her a year of life. „For these reasons, there was no family willing to adopt her. Maria cannot see or hear; she has a tracheostomy and eats through a feeding tube. We decided to be her parents and we gave our all.” Sadly, the Juvenile Court's initial decision was negative: „we were already parents of a special child and, out of caution, we couldn't adopt another.” Then, a few weeks later, on November 13, 2022, on the occasion of the descent of the painting of the Madonna, Roberta, the caregiver of a child, took the little girl and brought her right in front of Our Lady, „placing her little hand on the painting.” Two days later, the court summoned Tommaso and Pina again, „giving us the necessary consent for the adoption.” In June 2022, Maria received Holy Baptism, with baptismal name "Rosaria." Maria Rosaria turned 4 in February. On the video Pope Leo blesses the whole family with much affection. Video: Vatican Media

I recently spoke with a friend who knows this nun. I will share a message (with permission) from my friend here. Please join us in praying for the conversion of the attacker. “I saw [her] yesterday and the day before at Mass at St Stephen's. We talked after Mass. She is indeed injured with a visible wound to her head from the horrible attack (she was pushed to the ground and hit her temple on a stone, and then she was kicked). Thank God, she has no further complications. She said the attacker was a middle-aged religious Jew, and the picture she showed me places him somewhere between the hareidi (ultra-Orthodox) and the dati leumi (religious nationalist) camps. She said she was rescued by 3 other Jews who stopped the attacker from continuing to kick her. She told me the attacker was arrested, and she gave testimony at the police. She said that the Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs called her personally to apologize for the attack. She also said that she is praying for the conversion of her attacker, and I agreed to do so too.” - Leah Maryam, 4/31/26 Reposting this because I was informed by someone else I should not share the name of the nun. If you saw the original post, please do not share her name.

A few weeks ago, Queen Rania of Jordan kindly asked Pope Leo about the safety situation in Lebanon as his visit drew near. He responded firmly and serenely: “Well, we are going.” We are so grateful that he went. What a powerful testimony of faith, courage, and love we have witnessed in these days, and what a memorable journey for the Church and for Lebanon. Let us keep praying for our brothers and sisters in this beautiful and wounded country, entrusting them to the Lord and to the intercession of Our Lady of Harissa and all the saints of Lebanon. 📹 Eastern Christians

JUST IN: Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa & other Heads of Churches in Jerusalem today issue statement condemning what they call “yet another violent assault that targeted the West Bank Christian town of Taybeh,” a “peaceful & faithful community rooted in the land of Christ.” This “grievous incident,” they say, “forms part of an alarming pattern of settler violence against West Bank communities.” The Heads of the Christian Churches in Jerusalem “demand” that the Israeli government “hold accountable those responsible for these crimes,” protect vulnerable communities, & “uphold its obligations under international law.” Full statement here (and below): lpj.org/en/news/statement-on…
