Jeter to Murphy... “The Brewers play baseball the right way” …. - Pat Murphy replies … “Guys today don’t understand that!” We have gotten so far away from center as to what winning baseball is and looks like… the younger generation’s focus is on launch angle, spin rates, velocity and you only win by out slugging the opponent! Basically…. Hit more HR than the other team…. Then pimp the HR. Well eyes have been opened. They have to be. It’s now a matter of … if pride will keep the other orgs from following. If they do… our game will skyrocket like never before. It was literally the most beautiful baseball I have seen at the MLB level … electric! @MLBNetwork @MLB @MLBONFOX @nextlevelbb

Baseball has become the only sport where someone can go 0-for-4 with 3 strikeouts and someone will still post his exit velo. At some point, we might want to start caring about actually being good at baseball again in games.

Players stop feeling “picked on” when you are being coached to do the right things. Coaches are not going to get on you if you’re: • Hustling every rep • Shirt tucked in • Showing good body language • Playing solid catch • Taking care of the field • Cleaning the locker room • Keeping your uniform clean If coach is still reminding you about these things after the first week, I’m not the problem—that’s on you

It’s official. It’s so hard to sit and watch your kid play the game they love and listen to some of the nonsense that parents talk about. It’s really not that bad. You don’t need to complain about every little detail. You don’t need to try and dissect everything the coach is thinking. You don’t need to get upset over every close ball/strike call. You don’t need to offer your hitting advice after every pitch. You don’t need to question every decision. You don’t need to make excuses for poor play. Please just stop 🛑 It’s so annoying and embarrassing at the same time. #BaseballTruth

When a 14–15U kid posts a “better pop time” than a Major League Baseball catcher… it should raise eyebrows. Hand-timed. Perfect setup. No chaos. Now do it with 95 MPH in the dirt, a runner flying, and a hitter in the box. Showcase numbers isn’t real baseball.

Youth sports isn’t ruined by kids, it’s adults chasing trophies, rankings, and highlight reels over growth. We’ve traded development for exposure, joy for pressure, and teamwork for ego. Fix the adults, and you fix the game. It’s that simple.

It’s rare to see a great player: Complain Make excuses Show up late Blame others Show attitude They’re ready to compete and play at all times ✅ #juco #hsbaseball #baseballrecruiting #uncommitted

I spent 11 years as a pro athlete, and today I coach my 8-year-old. A few things I believe about youth sports... Most kids will never play college sports. Even fewer will earn money from playing their sports. Yet everyone can experience life lessons through sports. Now, to do that, it requires you, me, and everyone involved to understand the stakes. The stakes? Well, there are none. Ya, the 8u tournament where the coach lost his mind on a call by a 14-year-old umpire. The play your first basemen didn't make that he should have. The game you lost because the coach put the players in the "wrong positions". None of that matters, and understanding that...well, those are the stakes. You see, kids are incredible at watching, repeating, and forming habits. As a coach and parent, my goal is pretty simple. *Teach them the game *Make sure they enjoy it *Show them how to live with the results The most common pitfall I see in youth sports today is the excuse train. The umpire made a bad call. The coach feeds into it, the players follow along. The one player missed the easy play. The coach yells, the players feed into it. The team had a run of bad luck. The coach makes excuses, the players think that is ok. My friends, youth sports is a tool to teach your boys and girls about life. That's it... For the select few that will go on and play college or pro, good on them. Chances are that isn't my kids or your kids. So our job? To make sure they understand what is important and that we remember the stakes.

Watch a kid when he does things that don't benefit him directly. Examples Pick balls in the cage. Shag during batting practice. Clean the dugout after games and practices. Pick up and carry equipment. Chase foul balls. Reaction when a teammate does well. Work on the field. Etc. It will tell you a lot about how he was raised.

📢🚨 Attention youth ⚾️ coaches and parents: Please say this out loud: IT’S NOT THAT BIG OF A DEAL! - That strike call from that 16 year old kid that’s just trying to make some extra $ ? NOT THAT BIG OF A DEAL! - The other team that added a player that’s not on the roster for that mid week Little League game? NOT THAT BIG OF A DEAL? - The opposing coach does something you don’t like? NOT THAT BIG OF A DEAL! - That old umpire on his 5th game of the day that maybe missed a couple calls? NOT THAT BIG OF A DEAL! Really though, what are we doing?! The madness has to stop 🛑 There are soooooo many irrelevant and unimportant things that happen that get sooooo overblown. So next time, before you feel led to make the issue bigger than it really needs to be, please say this: IT’S NOT THAT BIG OF A DEAL! #BaseballTruth

Big difference between challenging a player to get most out them as a coach to threatening players to take them out for screwing up during a game.

Hitting is hard! Props to great coaches that recognize & reward good AB’s, good approach, and great swings… even when the results aren’t always showing up on paper.

High school baseball is different. More pressure. More on the line. You’re playing for your school. Your teammates. Your community. No re-dos. No picking a new team next weekend. Every game matters. Different game. Different stakes.

College coach told me this week: “We’re looking for mid-80s arms that throw strikes and can land a secondary.” Because our 90+ guys can’t find the zone… it’s a walk-a-thon. At every level—you can’t defend a walk. Thoughts?

There is no coach at any level in any country that cares about the exit velocity on the game winning hit.

People in high school baseball still don't get it. They celebrate a pitcher throwing 90 mph and giving up runs vs. a pitcher throwing 84 mph and giving up no runs. I'll take the no runs guy every time.

There was a generation of hitters who didn’t have private labs, slow-mo breakdowns, or daily swing breakdowns in their DMs. They had a cage. One coach. And a whole lot of failure. They didn’t outsource adjustments. They learned to feel them. They didn’t run to technology every 0-for-4. They learned how to compete through it. They had to figure it out themselves — in the dark, in the mess, in the middle of a season when nobody was coming to save them. And because of that, they developed something you can’t measure: Ownership. Feel. Resilience. Technology is a tool. But awareness is a skill. We can't let convenience rob this generation of growth. #GoodBatting

Ok now that everyone’s season is getting underway. Players who aren’t in the lineup, choose wisely where you sit in the dugout. Find a way to absorb as much knowledge as possible from coaches or veteran players. Get mental reps in & be prepared for when your # is called.
