Yes a severely mentally-ill guy hitting an MP with his car is absolutely the same issue as public servants' invalid hurt feelings about getting roasted at Estimates. Of course it is.

"We're still not reassured of the department's ability to administer [TCF] lawfully. When the consequences of error are as significant as people having no income at all, it's critically important that the government take the time to get it right," EJA told @YahooFinance last week

The compliance scheme, known as the Targeted Compliance Framework, has been paused for much of this year off the back of revelations of unlawful operations - including EJA analysis that revealed ~310K people had their payments cancelled illegally.

Last year, instead of forgiving debts the Albanese government had no way of validating... they passed laws to validate questionable debts.
This is at the same time they resumed unlawful payment cancellations. Turn down the temperature for who?

🚨 'Almost 150,000 Australians are being hit with Centrelink repayment debts that had been paused for years and calculated using the unlawful "income apportionment" method.'
Labor chose to pass legislation to retrospectively validate these illegal debts.

Meanwhile, they've acted on NONE of the Robodebt Royal Commission's recommendations for legislative reform in over 3 years, including to restore the normal statute of limitation of 6 years to social security debts.
Why wouldn't they do that? This is why.

This is going to be a disaster and it will end up in court by the end of next year. Everyone responsible is proceeding in the full knowledge that this will be the outcome, and they're pissing themselves. Simply stopping the runaway class action train, though, is not contemplated.
🚨 If you have received a message like this today please understand your mutual obligations HAVE NOT CHANGED.
The government is trying to inform you that they have resumed payment cancellations for certain mutual obligations breaches.
Here is the information you actually need:
The attached 'easy read' document is, as you may expect, supposed to be an accessible version that is simpler to understand.

IT'S HERE: From today you can get our new "Mutual" obligations rights guide – digital or in print
It explains in clear terms how you can & can’t be penalised to cut through job agency bullshit.
It’s for people w compulsory activities, community sector workers & other supporters

ALT Headline: Today harsh Centrelink penalties return – this new rights book will arm welfare recipients facing “mutual” obligations abuses. Art: Drawing of a person climbing a hill holding a job plan. An echidna is nearby. On another hill, on the other side of a creek, is a group of people. One of them is burning a job plan in a fire. In the distance are gum trees and mountains.
Do they have a different Constitution of Australia down there or something?

It's worth clarifying that this is not an ethically or ideologically complex statement. What I have said is I have used a tool and found it useful, where my job is to immediately maximise inadequate resources to do things to grow an organisation. Pretty well qualified, I thought!
