Irrespective of whether we have faith in religion or not, it’s good to be more compassionate. It makes us happier as individuals with a positive influence on our families and the neighborhood where we live.

When we as staff support each other daily our students not only have people who are emotionally available to support them but they have people who are role modeling real social emotional skills.
As we bring #Socialemotionallearning to our nation's schools, including @YaleEmotion's goal to make CT the First Emotionally Intelligent State, educator well-being must be a priority. The educators who are teaching our kids need support! @rulerapproach

If every school in America is willing to individualize their academic instruction, shouldn't we also be individualizing our behavior instruction? #SEL #behavior #teachingandlearning #KidsDeserveIt

#EmotionalIntelligence was coined 30 yrs ago. 1000s of articles & millions spent on training. Yet, we still struggle to honestly answer the question: How are you feeling? That’s why I wrote #PermissionToFeel, released today! @YaleEmotion @rulerapproach marcbrackett.com
As educators we have to work to not be reactive when our students become emotional at us and unable to self regulate. We need instead to be responsive and assist a student in coping with the situation and their choices. #EmotionalIntelligence @YaleEmotion
Not a new concept but one worth reflecting on. Especially when you are looking to have a positive impact on your world and those around you.

One of the most important shifts when transitioning from a punitive to restorative discipline process is in our language when speaking w/ students.
Changing the question from "Do you know why that was wrong?" to "What can you do to make things right?"

Expecting students to do things that they aren't developmentally ready for can lead to frustration, manifesting in misbehaviors. We need to bring back being a kid.
