For 81 years, the United Nations has given the world a place to come together across differences and act on challenges no country can solve alone.
This #UNDay, I remain as convinced as ever that this institution and the values it stands for are indispensable.
Deeply grateful to our @UN family around the world, whose dedication and courage bring the promise of our Charter to life every day.

On behalf of the government and people of South Africa, I offer warm congratulations to His Excellency President @PaulKagame and the government and people of Rwanda on securing a 10-year agreement to host the Formula 1 African Grand Prix.
South Africa shares in the pride with which Rwanda is preparing to fly the chequered flag for our continent with the hosting of a globally prestigious event at the planned Bugesera circuit from the early 2030s.
This contract is a recognition of the capabilities of the Rwandan nation and of our continent more broadly.
As host of the first Grand Prix on African soil in 1993, and organiser of other major global events, South Africa will be happy to provide any support we may be invited to share.
The F1 African Grand Prix is another lustrous addition to Rwanda’s growing collection of top international events, including the UCI-classified Tour du Rwanda cycling race.
Congratulations, Rwanda.
You are in pole position to make all of Africa proud and take motorsport to new heights.

The beating heart of the #IMFMeetings is not only in meeting rooms and formal events: it’s very much in conversations in the hallways, the handshakes between old friends and new partners, and the chance encounters that spark fresh ideas. Take a look behind the scenes.

Qatar Welcomes Resumption of Diplomatic Relations Between the Kingdom of Belgium and the Republic of Rwanda
Doha | 23 September 2026
The State of Qatar welcomes the joint decision by the Kingdom of Belgium and the Republic of Rwanda to resume diplomatic relations and reopen their respective embassies, and considers it a positive step that reflects the two countries’ commitment to overcoming differences through dialogue and mutual understanding.
In this context, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs notes that Doha hosted, in June 2025, the first meeting between the Foreign Ministers of the two countries, as part of the State of Qatar’s efforts to bring the two sides’ perspectives closer together. The Ministry also expresses the State of Qatar’s appreciation for the two countries’ recognition of its role in this process.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs commends the constructive spirit demonstrated by both sides in addressing differences and clearing up misunderstandings, and expresses the State of Qatar’s hope that the resumption of diplomatic relations will open new horizons for cooperation between the two countries, in a manner that supports peace and stability at the regional and international levels.
The Ministry reiterates the State of Qatar’s firm belief that direct dialogue and diplomatic means represent the optimal path for resolving differences between states, and affirms the State of Qatar’s continued support for all efforts aimed at bringing perspectives closer together and resolving disputes through peaceful means.

🇧🇪🇷🇼 (EN/FR/NL) Pleased to announce today the resumption of diplomatic relations between Belgium and Rwanda.
In a world marked by growing tensions, this is an important signal here in New York, the UN's host city, which embodies multilateralism and dialogue beyond our differences.
This is the culmination of a process of frank discussions with my counterpart and the result of a shared, respectful effort. I am convinced that we can set a positive agenda, mutually beneficial to our citizens, and grounded in the richness of our interpersonal relations.
We agreed on the importance of systematic dialogue, including on the points of disagreement that remain, such as the conflict in eastern DRC. Restoring diplomatic relations between states does not mean abandoning our position, but having structured channels for dialogue, and I will continue to defend the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the DRC.
We want to put our expertise in the region to work in support of mediation efforts as best we can, and we will continue to urge strict respect for the commitments made by all parties within the Doha and Washington processes.
