November magazine out today!
What does it take to turn big ambitions into reality? “Anyone can talk. Ideas, opinions, political bluster. This month’s magazine has action: conflict, work and momentum,” @Eisenpress writes in her latest editor’s letter. TRD’s November issue examines the people making moves in real estate — from Michael Meldman’s global luxury empire and Pam Liebman’s next chapter at Compass to the fortunes, family feuds and obstacles shaping the industry.

It’s been a bumpy year for commercial mortgage-backed securities — but a good one for special servicers, who now hold the highest volume and share of CMBS loans since the financial crisis. @mcdiduch has the latest on CMBS trends for #TRDData. bit.ly/4koIaXc

Real estate is consistently one of the top donors to federal elections. What does the industry's spending look like this midterm? I went thru 100s of 1000s of FEC docs to find out, so you don't have to. Read the analysis here: therealdeal.com/data/nationa…

Fist fights, money laundering, private clubs . . . sometimes you get a story that has it all
Money can buy a $236,000 membership at Aman Club. Apparently, it can't buy peace in the cigar lounge. An alleged fight between real estate attorney Leo Jacobs and developer Alex Ajmi ended with both men banned. @Lilah_Burke unpacks the Fifth Avenue fracas on the latest Deconstruct podcast.

We actually covered this phenomenon last year: therealdeal.com/new-york/202… A study of condo resales in Manhattan over the last few years found that: - 1 in 3 units sold for a loss - over HALF of those who bought from 2016 to 2020 sold for a loss
The worst housing market over the last decade is somewhere people would least expect. Manhattan. Values in New York County dropped by -11.9% from September 2016 to 2026, falling from 1.41M to 1.24M. Which is an astounding -51.2% drop in inflation-adjusted terms. Condo/co-op/townhome values inn Manhattan are now at record lows compared to incomes and rents. Making it one of the most undervalued housing markets in America, despite it's still expensive price tag. Values have actually started turning recently, up 3% YoY. Meaning it could be a good time to buy in NYC. Check the value trends for your county at: reventure.app/map/cMk5iPrSfq

America's mortgage market is flashing warning signs not seen in three years. Applications have fallen year over year for 11 straight weeks, and refinancing demand has plunged 56%. @mcdiduch has more on what the numbers reveal. therealdeal.com/data/nationa…

I will be on NY1 tomorrow at 7:30am(!) to talk about this story !!
The bank and drugstore takeover of Manhattan retail is finally ending! Chain banks and pharmacies are downsizing. That leaves landlords with big spaces they can't fill. So they're chopping them up, putting three stores in one. My story: therealdeal.com/new-york/202…

I profiled landlord advocate and social media personality Humberto Lopes, winning the award of "most curse words we've ever included in a magazine story," I'm told. therealdeal.com/magazine/oct…
