FIC uncovers K1bn mineral smuggling syndicate

THE Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) says between 2022 and 2024, the agency uncovered a mineral smuggling syndicate worth about K1 billion.

They are telling us the removal of term limits will not affect our rights to elect a leader of our choice. So, if at any point we are stuck with a bad leader, we can easily vote him/ her out.
What advocates for this narrative are forgetting is that elections are not easy to win. In most cases, they have very little to do with how brilliant one is.
HH, considering how smart he spoke during his time in opposition and how he seemed to be a better alternative, he lost elections 5 times, surely that should tell you something.
Don’t come here telling me that one day, we will be able to get rid of an “Idi Amin” kind of leader in 5 years, through the ballot.
You people joke a lot. It’s all rosy now, one day it won’t be, the term limit is a safeguard we should all be trying to protect. We aren’t short of manpower in this country.
What we should be discussing at this point, noting that this “could be” HH’s last term is the establishment of good systems that will allow for continuity of good government projects and strict implementation of our national development goals.
The UPND should have been grooming a suitable successor as we speak.
Government is not a sole proprietorship where one man is expected to carry the country’s vision.
Even the people of Mporokoso will agree with me on this one, I am certain. 😂

Agreed. Except Zambia runs a much bigger trade surplus. By August it had exported about US$12bn against Zimbabwe’s US$9bn, with a trade surplus of roughly US$2bn. So on trade Zam is actually ahead of Zim.
One can argue Zambia is more export oriented and its GDP therefore more export heavy. Which is a fair argument…..But, the defence is much harder to sustain on electricity and fuel: almost every unit of domestic output has to show up somewhere in energy use. If GDP is genuinely much larger, Zim double Zam then you would normally expect a materially larger energy footprint too.
