Come see our Executive Director @SenArianaKelly discuss “Elected American” with @LilyQiMaryland at Wonderland Books on Tuesday!
A common question I get at book talks is: Why did I write Elected American? For the same reason I ran for office: representation. I wanted my generation of Chinese immigrants’ experience to be part of the American immigrant narrative—especially those who grew up under a very different political system, learned to fear and distrust politics, and then chose to participate in a democracy. Two more MoCo stops this month: 📚 Tuesday, 9/15, 7 pm — Wonderland Books, Bethesda, with @SenArianaKelly 📚 Tuesday, 9/22, 6 pm — People’s Book, Takoma Park, with @DavidMoon2014 wonderlandbooks.com/item/uxX…

We recently lost three giants of the women's movement: Gloria Steinem, @TheRobinMorgan, and @DollyParton . Their legacies in justice, collective action, and economic independence lay the foundation for our work every day.

Great article featuring Commissioner Nyki Robinson of @blackgirlsvote about the power of Black women voters.
Some of the longest and strongest relationships I have in this district and this City and State are with Black women who have been leading in their neighborhoods for decades. When I think about my experience in elected office, it is Black women who have shaped me and showed me what this work is about and what matters most — Lisa Gladden, Joan Carter Conway, Verna Jones Rodwell, Catherine Pugh, Shirley Nathan Pulliam, Delores Kelley, Melony Griffith, Mary Washington, Jill P Carter, Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, and Sheila Dixon. These women showed me what it actually means to be a warrior for people, and I hope my work on an everyday basis shows them how much they have taught me. thebanner.com/politics-power…
