the best piece on peter's antichrist lecture series by a wide margin. if you're interested in what he actually said and thinks, rather than what a journalist who hates him and received some third hand notes believes he might have said, check out the latest from pirate wires:
For months, everyone has been talking about Peter Thiel’s secretive Antichrist lectures in Nashville. @gb_rango attended all four off-the-record lectures, held inside the historic Grand Lodge of Tennessee Free and Accepted Masons. Now, with Thiel’s blessing: a comprehensive, firsthand reconstruction of his sprawling theory of the end times, from AI doomers and one-world government to the fate of America. piratewires.com/p/inside-pet…

This Friday, I’ll be giving a talk on the historical case for the resurrection of Christ. Several years ago, I began looking into the historical evidence as an atheist to prove that Christianity was nothing but a therapeutic superstition. What I found completely changed my life. Over the course of a year, I spent nearly every waking moment reading whatever I could find on the subject. My entire life was suddenly reorganized around answering this one question: did Jesus Christ actually rise from the dead? There was a time when I thought this question was too ridiculous to even consider. But looking back, it was by far the most important question I've ever asked. If you're interested in learning more, check out the link to the event page below. All are welcome to join regardless of religious background or lack thereof.

Dying on the cross was reserved for criminals and enemies of the state because it was considered one of the most tortuous and humiliating ways to die. The crucifix often depicts the nails going through Jesus’ hands. This is not historically accurate. The hands were not rugged enough to support the weight of the body. The nails went through the wrists, where several major nerves are located. So if you can recall the extreme pain of hitting your funny bone gently on a wall (that’s because of a nerve), imagine what it feels like when a nail is driven through it. Another horrifying feature of dying on a cross is that you perish, on top of the traumatic injuries, through slow-motion suffocation. Because of the compression of the lungs caused by the awkward position, victims had to press onto their feet, into the nails and the injury there, temporarily lifting the body, creating enough momentarily relief to inhale and exhale. Eventually exhaustion would set in over the course of hours, and this movement became impossible. There are a few important things to note about the crucifixion. 1. Nothing about it makes rational sense. It does not make sense that God would murder his son. It does not make sense that his son was somehow paying the ultimate penalty in humanity’s place. The whole affair is fundamentally beyond our understanding. By the same token, Christians believe the moment altered the fabric of reality. This was a cosmic event. Because of what happened 2,000 years ago, *somehow* I am now free. 2. Other than the mysterious aspects of this, there are some practical earthly ways in which it is true. Christ’s sacrifice and resurrection became the best story ever told. It traveled across the ancient world with such virality that, just 20 years later, it had reached Caesar’s palace in Rome. Within 300, it was the Roman Empire’s official religion. The Western conception of morality — the one we all now take for granted — transformed, organizing around the inherent worth of every single human being instead of status, honor, social hierarchy, and brute strength. 3. Christ lived and died as a model of love. Whatever the practical earthly consequences, whatever the supernatural implications, the crucifixion is something to aspire to every single day of our short lives. It’s no easy feat to sacrifice yourself for another being. We have the opportunity 100 times a day, and we fail to take it, sometimes, literally all 100 of those times. The challenge and opportunity of dying on the cross is not purely a hypothetical one. What cross do you shoulder? How much pain will you accept for the benefit of another being, even and especially when they don’t deserve it? Even and especially when it isn’t rational to do so?

??? If someone came to you and was like ok the entire world is gonna get plunged into literally everyone being eternally tortured, OR you can undergo torture yourself for 24 hours to save them, are you telling me you'd refuse??

YCSE - If you are unsure of who’s lying or if there are even lies then I would seriously reconsider your moral compass and you need Jesus.

Truly. But after last night I’m questioning if literally anyone cares about truth.
Last night @growing_daniel built one of the best experiences I have had all year. These are the only photos I have. He screened “You Can See Everything” and did 2 simple things: 1) Phones were sealed in security bags at the beginning. The 30 minutes before screening were electric, people all talking, laughing, present 2) Every event is a magic trick, and every magic trick needs a prestige. His: a surprise, off the record Q&A after a 3 hour movie. 99% of the room stayed. The guest had been sitting in the dark watching it with us the whole time, and the conversation felt like the sequel dropping the second the credits rolled. @cyantist and I kept turning to each other like, "is this the Truman Show??" Magic is magic. 🪄 bravo. PS Daniel of course would staff his own event and put wrist bands on everyone.

What if Jesus is chasing after you for eternity? That it’s impossible for His love to stop just after physical death. Hell is your perpetual decision to live separated from God.
Jesus is not going to force you into heaven against your will. If you don't want Him now, you're not going to want Him in eternity.

Our fav hike around SF is Tomales Point. Idyllic. Where the ocean meets the bay. Leave at 8am, bagel from Laundromat, start at Tomales Point trailhead, oysters and wine at The Marshall Store, salt bath, bed.
