I’ve seen plenty of not-so-pretty production code; code that had 1% test coverage, painful deployments, and codebases that even the grinch wouldn’t touch.
We never made time for addressing all that tech debt, because we failed to sell the value.
Reframe your debt, as wealth.
.@leemaynassery proposes rebranding tech debt as “tech wealth”: “This subtle shift in perspective can give engineering teams and leaders a fresh outlook on this essential—but perhaps less glitzy—aspect of our work.” increment.com/planning/refra…
Memories of this Philly+DC collaboration ~2013 for Labweek back when we were CIM.
Good times!

You see how Amanda Gorman just made you feel??
This is why art matters so much. It has the ability to cut through and gets right to the heart of the matter.
I guarantee most will forget the majority of these speeches, but it will be hard to forget what she just did today.

Wow, @TheAmandaGorman:
"We've seen a force that would shatter our nation rather than share it.."
"..a nation not broken, but unfinished.."

There are 3 problems with our media that are fueling polarization: 1. The closing of 2,000 local papers, which are typically not very partisan; 2. Cable news maximizing audience share by adopting political stances (Fox); and 3. Social media’s supercharging of conspiracy theories.

Character MATTERS.
Being a good person MATTERS.
This is a big deal.
It’s easy to do it the cheap way and get away with stuff — but it comes back around.
Today is a good day.

... I left @BarCampPhilly this year with a specific challenge to share and build community. I know many of us feel isolated in Berks. So let’s fix it with some food and drink and good ‘ol developer geekery! Come on out to my studio on December 11th at the GoggleWorks in Reading.
