This is a great way to encourage your most talented employees to leave, People want to work. They don’t want mediocrity draped in a lack of trust.
Billionaire John Morgan reveals 23 employees quit the first week he put cameras on work from home computers… “We're going to put a camera on your computer… We're going to put a camera up your a**… The first week, 23 people quit. It's not that they don't want to work from home. They don't want to f***ing work.”

The Flock doomers and data center doomers have gotten legitimate results. Maybe you think both of these technologies are great and their critics are excitable rubes, but this is a concession from Flock that the product had serious vulnerabilities and wasn't as secure as it could be. The same is true of tech companies now pouring more money into towns to build data centers and agreeing to pay for strain on the grid. That only happened because people pushed back with real concerns.
Flock, the country’s most prominent seller of automated license-plate readers, said it will require stricter oversight after a Post investigation found dozens of officers had misused its cameras to spy on their exes and romantic interests. wapo.st/4xxRXxw

Can’t find the talent they want, for the price they’re willing to pay.
The tech job market makes no sense. - Juniors can't get in. - Seniors are getting laid off. - Mid-levels are burning out. And companies still claim they can't find talent.

Because why would you want to own anything?! Even mathematically, this doesn't make sense. Shifting to Apple's silicon has created Apple devices that last much longer. The M1 Macbook Air STILL works for people 6 years after launch. Stop reaching for an annual upgrade.
Apple Upgrade leasing program is very good. You can can an iPhone 17 + MacBook Air + Apple Watch for $61 per month You would get phone and watch for 2 years, MacBook Air for 3. It would cost less than financing them upgrading and you could buy it out. 0% interest is killer

An extra $20-$100/mo seat for productivity software was too large an ask. Standards, communication, and training were too difficult a problem.

So, here we are. Burning $$$$ smacking a screw with the AI hammer, because some bean counter was uncomfortable with the amount of software SKU licenses across the enterprise.

Assuming this is true… If only there was another industry to learn from. Where they “didn’t have time to train” and resorted to poaching, and driving up their own collective payrolls. Sometimes slowing down is the faster way forward.
Mike Rowe says he visited a Texas data center and met three “debt-free” electricians under 30 making “north of $240,000/year.” All three have been “poached” three times in the last 18 months because the demand for electricians is crazy high. ROWE: “I was in Plano, Texas… got a tour of a data center.” “I ran into three electricians, all under 30, all making north of 240 grand a year, all debt-free.” “Now here’s the craziest part. All three had been poached three times in the prior 18 months.” “The shortages are so acute that the companies don’t have time to train. They have to poach.” “Great news for an electrician. But it’s a little weird for the economy overall.”

This is a great article that I revisit at least once a year. If you haven't read it yet, you should. It's been around a while. I can't quite explain it...but I have a feeling it will become apropos amongst the looming "AI layoffs". randsinrepose.com/archives/b…
