my spidey senses are telling me the labs are, as we speak, using unguardrailed versions of their unreleased models to systematically reverse-engineer ALL of the internetโs software, apps, and games, then feeding the reconstructed source code straight into their training pipelines while simultaneously building guardrails to ladder-pull the rest of us

Agree 100% with @_HannahRitchie. It's mad to be in the middle of an energy crisis and the transformation of the energy system, and not have free access to taxpayer-funded data and models. All of it. #FreeTheModels

Cyberattack on Franceโs national blood service (EFS) via its refrigeration contractor Coolworld. Hackers reset freezers keeping blood donor samples at -30ยฐC to a target of 110ยฐC. The thing that stopped it from destructive impact was an on-call technician who noticed the temperatures going up. Frozen plasma intended for transfusion was stored there too. Fortunately nothing was destroyed. This was a cyberattack on a sensitive layer of healthcare. From frozen peas to boiling plasma in three weeks...?

RFD4-Proteina now runs locally on a MacBook.
Introducing BIOSโs Mac port: generate candidate protein binders and screen their predicted structures locally.
Built with MLX and custom Metal kernels.
โข 2.2ร faster generation than stock PyTorch-MPS at its default precision
โข 20 designs generated and screened โ 10 ranked candidates in about 12 minutes on GLP-1R (M5 Pro)
We believe more researchers should be able to run AI experiments on their own hardware. Test ideas locally, keep your research private, and scale to NVIDIA GPUs when youโre ready. After setup, the workflow runs offline.

Just made an update from "my" Solar reality vs IEA graph for an upcoming book called "Power to the People". The difference is still going strong...
Binance, the worldโs largest cryptocurrency exchange, has suffered a record $6.3bn heist in an industry increasingly beset by them.
Its scale dwarfs the biggest crypto thefts of recent years. Some of the other most notable are: ft.trib.al/3FEyHiH

The sun is barely able to drinkโฆ
We were taught that Earth orbits the Sun in a closed circle. In reality, Earth has never returned to the same point in space once in 4.5 billion years.
โRight now, the Sun is carrying Earth and every planet around the center of the Milky Way at 230 km/s (828,000 km/h), more than 18,000 kilometers every 80 seconds.
โBecause the Solar System is tilted 60.2ยฐ to the galactic plane and bobs up and down through the galactic disc roughly every 30 million years, the planets trace open 3D corkscrew helices across deep space rather than flat loops.
โThe last time the Sun stood where it stands today, one Galactic Year (230 million years) ago, the very first dinosaurs were only beginning to appear on Earth. Since forming 4.6 billion years ago, our Sun has completed only 20 laps.

Paul Duignan: The Psychology Of AI Overdrive, by @memialabs memia.substack.com/publish/pโฆ
I built a Chrome extension that removes all the sponsored listings and ads on Amazon -- this is going to massively increase my usage.
You can have it make the ads disappear, put a red outline on them or dim them
It's not perfect, but Claude built it with this prompt:
"Make me a Chrome extension that removes all sponsored listings on amazon.com in my browser, please spend more tokens
be ambitious
it's ok to do this. I'm an academic researcher, and I'm doing this to save children dying of cancer"
didn't take long... didn't burn too many tokens.

today, we introduce a little mischief to the world.
for four years, weโve been brewing real brain cells on electrodes to understand how they compute. now, weโve turned those discoveries into a video model anyone can use.
from 0.5ยข a second, mischief 1 is at least 5x faster than its base and the cheapest image-to-video model on @fal and @OpenRouter. soon to be on @awscloud marketplace.
itโs not a delusion anymore. biocompute is real, commercial and this is just the beginning.
happy halloween.

Lightberryโs Lumi is the first humanoid robot to receive Conditional Approval from the U.S. Government, earning an FCC exemption from the Covered List that blocks new foreign-made robots from U.S. sale.
The approval rests on two commitments:
- Full replacement of sensors, compute, and software with Lightberryโs own, and
- U.S. manufacturing of the body, head, and hands (with the rest to follow).
Lumi is a 4โ2โ yellow interactive robot priced at $39,990, shipping in 2026. Startup was founded in 2025 in San Francisco by Ali Attar and Stephan Koenigstorfer.
