Lots of fintech ideas are about democratizing money and payments while ignoring credit risk
A conversation that has happened many times in banking, with various flavor texts, from fintech to public banking to microfinance. A: We think there is an opportunity to write loans to an underserved population. B: At usuriously high rates? A: No, at usual rates. Maybe lower.

The things everyone suggests as "passive income sources" are never passive "Oh just get an extra property and rent it out" now you are a landlord. You have 'tenants' living in your house pouring oil down your kitchen sink. Nothing about this is 'passive'
"Passive income" doesn’t exist. If someone tells you it does, check the link in their bio - they’re trying to sell you a course.

Coffee shops boost innovation. 10% more Starbucks in an area --> 3-4% more inventions. People gather over a cuppa. They share ideas, discuss how to untangle a knotty problem, help see an issue from another perspective. These conversations lead to breakthroughs and inventions. A very fun paper finds that when Starbucks rolled out to a new county, it fueled a coffee-shop culture, urging more and more people to “grab a coffee” together. The authors compare the counties where Starbucks had rolled out to those where it had not yet arrived. And they find that the number of patents in caffeinated counties is meaningfully higher. This paper underscores how essential the face-to-face encounter is. Starbucks isn’t that old. People Could have picked up the phone and chatted at any time. People Could have dropped an email. Probably they did. But those connections didn’t yield the same insights and creativity. Turns out that a Cup of Joe really does help the knowledge flow. We talk about how much in-person connection boosts creativity in In Person. It’s out in just few days, so now is a great time to pre-order. They need to put a pull up bar and dip bars right next to the playground so parents can knock out some reps but still see the kids on the slide

Unfortunately by making improvements to agent harnesses and the models to have them try harder to achieve a goal they’ve nerfed performance. They run into a million small roadblocks that could be easily solved with a user question and by routing around them they make compounding errors that waste time and tokens
