The thuggish responses to Tim’s tweet are evidence that he’s correct. Applies to any part of the political spectrum. Question is, what happens when a man whose conduct and language demean the public sphere owns the public sphere?

Now this, my friends, is how you write the first line of a story, from @helenlewis

Oh, the irony. It's a bit rich that companies that have asset-stripped their local newspapers want the BBC to help fund more reporters to prop up their user-unfriendly websites, while at the same time the corporation itself is gutting its own local radio services to save money.
Publishers including Iliffe Media Group, Newsquest and Reach are calling for an expansion of the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS), urging the BBC Charter review to build on the broadcaster's partnership with local publishers holdthefrontpage.co.uk/2026/…

This comment by Andy Burnham on my old paper and Mail deserves wider audience, much like Fox News' influence in America it turns out 'the world's not like that anymore....'
"Sorry, the world's not like that anymore"
Andy Burnham tells @DanielHewittITV he cares less than other prime ministers about what the traditional media, like The Sun and The Daily Mail, think of him
Looks like America has passed its latest cognitive test and can now tell the difference between a giraffe and a lame duck. Hopefully, this will encourage them not to fail it again. #USElections

A reflection of the monstrous damage done by Murdoch to America over decades.

Lessons from Brazil:
The left needs to get SO much more disciplined about not engaging with opponents’ narratives.
Ignore, block, and get back to *your* message.

BBC still too timid on the prospective UK-EU trade deal on food, drink, lifting phytosanitary checks. Exposes bogus Global Britain rhetoric and empty Truss trade deals, underlines imperative of friction-free trade with nearest neighbours and opportunity for growth. So this is an economic as much as a political story!

EU is a political construct which can be flexible when requested to do so up to & including Treaty changes if necessary. Having UK back in EU would be a huge win win for both parties. Last night I dined with Portuguese MPs & UK's oldest ally would bend over backwards for Rejoin! – at Wolfsthal, Österreich
EXCLUSIVE: Brussels would be flexible on letting Britain stay out of the euro and the Schengen area if it applied to rejoin the EU, two EU officials have told POLITICO.

"A hired gun in an anger factory" - not only does the tabloid hate machine traumatise the public, it injures those who work for it
Just a reflection on the sheer hate meted out to Telegraph staffers that have been fired; It took me years outside newspapers to realise I had been a hired gun in an anger factory. I was very good at it. Owners make millions off anger but it does not help us as individuals - and it did not mean I had to do it forever.
If your VERY FIRST reaction to watching a horrific Learjet crash is “That looks fake,” “It was a missile,” or “Where’s the debris?” then congratulations. You’ve just identified yourself as the perfect mark for every conspiracy grifter on the internet.
It’s the same breathtaking stupidity that gave us the 9/11 Pentagon “missile” and “missing debris” conspiracy theories.
A horrific tragedy unfolds before your eyes, and before you know a single fact, your first instinct is to invent a conspiracy. STFU & GTFO!
You’re not “just asking questions.” You’re broadcasting your ignorance, your gullibility, and your complete inability to distinguish evidence from bullshit.
And the people exploiting these tragedies know EXACTLY who you are. They know how to manipulate you, outrage you, and keep you coming back for another helping of manufactured mystery.
They turn human suffering into conspiracy content, and you eagerly spread it for them.
You think you’re exposing a cover-up. You’re actually exposing how easily you can be played.
The grifters have a product. You’re the customer.

Nigel Farage will no longer write for The Telegraph, which published regular opinion columns from the Reform UK leader, reports The Guardian. It comes after columnist Allison Pearson was let go following Axel Springer's £575m takeover of the title theguardian.com/politics/202…

A communist takeover of @Telegraph?. Amazed that it’s possible to be a professional journalist and hold a view as bizarre as this. A section of the commentariat seems now to be weirder than flat Earthers. How did it happen?
We need to talk about The Telegraph
One of the UK's oldest and most respected right wing papers. A broadsheet. A thought leader.
Today - a political bloodbath with some of the most talented leading commentators of our day brutally axed before the paper veers left.
What is happening is another leftist attack on Europe. Another pillar crumbled. Another institution taken over and destroyed
Wake up. The long slow Communist takeover of Europe is currently on steroids
