My wife teaches English at a high school in Japan. Last week, she gave her students a writing prompt: "If you could be American for one day, what would you do?" She read me the answers at dinner. She had to stop three times because she was laughing too hard. "Own a pickup truck. I don't need a truck. I just want to say, 'Don't worry, I'll grab the truck.'" "Have a garage. Not for a car. For 'stuff.'" "Buy 48 rolls of toilet paper at Costco. I live with my parents. I want them anyway." "Get a free refill. Then another one. Then another one. Until they ask me to leave. They won't ask me to leave." "Water my lawn at 6 a.m. in a bathrobe and wave at my neighbor." "Call my teacher 'dude.'" (My wife underlined this one. Twice.) "Hang a flag on my house for no reason. Just because it's Tuesday." And a lot of them wrote some version of this: "Tell my dad I love him. Out loud. At the dinner table." Then she had the class vote for the best answer. The winner wasn't funny. It came from the funniest kid in the class. The truck kid. "Stand up when the anthem plays, put my hand on my heart, and look around and see everybody else doing it too." My wife asked him why he picked that one. He shrugged. "Because then you're never proud alone."

If you're not following her yet, her posts on North American Natives are simply fantastic. Interesting reading and terrific topics.
The Apache bow was a practical masterpiece of available materials. Hunters and warriors preferred flexible mulberry wood or cedar, often backed with animal sinew for extra power and durability. The sinew was glued on with a mixture made from boiled rawhide, then left to dry and shrink so it added tension and strength. A skilled bow maker held high status because the process took days of careful work. Arrows were usually composite. The main shaft came from straight river reeds, the plant the Apache called klo-ka (klo-KAH), or arrow grass. These reeds needed little or no straightening, unlike the wooden shafts used by many neighboring peoples. A hardwood foreshaft was inserted into the reed, and the point was attached to that. Early points were stone, with obsidian preferred for its sharp edge. By the 1800s iron points made from trade metal were common. Three feathers, bound with sinew, completed the arrow. Quivers were made of tanned hide or rawhide and often carried fringe. These weapons supplied food for the family and defended the land. They were remade and passed along as long as the materials lasted.

C. Tear down that wall. A & D were speeches any president would have to make. They were fantastic, but only stated what was happening. B. MLK was amazing and I almost chose it, but it mainly affected America, and Reagan’s changed the world.

Angel Reese had twice as many turnovers (9) as made field goals (4) in Games 4 & 5 combined. Reese scored 15 points in the two Atlanta losses, as the Dream go from up 2-1 to down 3-2 in the WNBA Finals.

She wants the fantasy she learned in University, "unencumbered" by the harsh slap of reality.
There is nothing original about this woman. This is white guilt passed down through education. She is repeating what white guilt whites have said for decades. The "freedom" that she claims to want is actually what Shelby Steele has long called dissociation. She dissociates from what she sees as the sins of the West in order to gain innocence. A false innocence. Because the irony here is that this dissociation requires privilege. You cannot perform white guilt innocence about the West from Gaza. You need the nice house in London to do it. And the turtleneck.

What an insane story. So good @NancyLieberman
Nancy Lieberman played for the Lakers' summer league team in 1981. Pat Riley didn’t want her there. 45 years later, she told us the story of how she won him over.

Let Phil Parker unleash in the locker room. The defense was excellent except for a few key moments where they were absolute garbage.

Minny jumped early, and they didn't call it! Would have made the FG 5 yds longer.

Iowa has been replaced by body doubles from Iowa State. POOR tackling all game long, simply bizarre.
