If you missed it, here’s my full report at Law Dork on today’s big ruling out of Florida, striking down the state’s ban on gender-affirming care for minors and several of the restrictions for similar care for all ages: lawdork.com/p/hinkle-florida… From Judge Hinkle’s ruling:

Unironically, the government is very good at buying clothes. Much of men's dress derives from military uniforms: bomber jackets (A1, A2, MA1), field jackets (M43, M51, M65), & naval jackets (peacoat, duffle coat, deck coat). Even some of the coolest sneakers are gov issued (GATs)

This is sick burn, except I kinda doubt the government cares about shape or drape

Good morning to Gaza. This was taken on October 16, 2021 from the top of the school where I was teaching. It was taken just before classes started, at 7 am. I miss my students, many of whom got killed or wounded. This is Gaza and it will remain beautiful.

In St. Louis, police rammed a car into a gay bar and then arrested the owner. The police's felony charge has already been reduced to a misdemeanor by the prosecutor. The owner is now out — but "had been in the city jail for approximately 36 hours." riverfronttimes.com/news/bar…

It's such a powerful statement for these Jewish organizations to be demonstrating on Shabbat. "We will not rest" in this context means "the situation is so dire it requires breaking one of our most holy commandments." ❤️

BREAKING: NYPD have come to disperse the crowd and silence our voices but we’re only getting louder. We will not rest until we get a ceasefire, safe return of hostages, and an end to the siege on Gaza. Countless lives are at stake. @jvplive

Cop illegally breaks into home to confront man suspected of a misdemeanor. Man shoots at cop. Cop kills man. Cop is protected by Wyoming law stand your ground law, which says the law doesn't apply when you shoot a cop, even if the cop acted illegally. cowboystatedaily.com/2023/10…

Blockbuster stores were required to have at least 7,000 movies. Many had closer to 10,000. Netflix has averaged ~3,000 movies for the last several years. At the peak Netflix had like 5,000.
Streaming is a modern marvel that allows us to watch more shows and movies than any old Blockbuster could hope to stock. But somehow, the act of consuming content has never felt more frustrating than it does today, writes @cwarzel. theatlantic.com/technology/a…

PSA: Although #SB799 didn't pass, writers and other freelancers can STILL collect UI by laying themselves off from their own S Corps. (Also, if you're a freelancer who doesn't have an S Corp, get one.)

My sis was denied TWICE from the heart transplant list due to “noncompliance.” A 27 yr old BW w/2 kids. The noncompliance? Not always liking hospital food, missing meds b/c NURSES didn’t wake her up, & panic attacks seen as “aggressive.” She died 2 months after the last denial.

BREAKING: A federal court in North Carolina blocked 2 abortion restrictions set to take effect October 1. This ruling ensures abortion providers can continue providing medication abortion to patients seeking care at very early stages of pregnancy, and survivors of sexual assault can get the care they need after 12 weeks of pregnancy.

I keep seeing “artistic privilege” get thrown around by people who claim to be underprivileged and need AI to help them create art. STOP IT. THAT IS NOT PRIVILEGE. Creativity can be inherent, but skills are LEARNED. YOU CAN LEARN how to art. I can’t LEARN how to white man.

Fellow writers: Make sure you’re officially back on payroll before resuming work. I’ve just been informed that my home studio doesn’t know yet when they will unsuspend deals and put writers back on payroll, so the work stoppage continues for some of us.
The WGA reached a tentative agreement with the AMPTP. Today, our Negotiating Committee, WGAW Board, and WGAE Council all voted unanimously to recommend the agreement. The strike ends at 12:01 am. Check out our deal at wgacontract2023.org/deal. #WGAStrong
