Thank you @antonioguterres
I congratulate journalist & former refugee Abdullahi Mire on receiving this year's #NansenAward, from UNHCR.
I commend his unwavering commitment to the right to education, while putting thousands of books in the hands of refugee children in Kenya.

This is a great honor for @YouthRyeh all RLOs in Africa.
It proves the power of localization/innovation and how we serve our communities. At a time when 1 in 70 people globally has been forced to flee our work as RLOs is more essential than ever. @RefugeesSeat @UNHCRInnovation

🇸🇴 Nunca vi algo así. En Somalia hoy se llenó un estadio para recibir como héroe nacional a Omar Artan, el árbitro al que Estados Unidos le negó la entrada al Mundial. Increíble.

Omar Artan didn’t just make the #FIFAWorldCup, he made history as the first Somali referee to get there, and as #Africa’s best. That milestone stands no matter what. So sorry to see this, Omar. You reached the summit of your profession and inspired a generation back home just by getting there, and being kept off the pitch you earned doesn’t change that. This won’t be the end of your story on the world stage. The world stands with you as one family, wishing you resilience now and many more major finals to come. Solidarity. #Somalia

My latest work for The Guardian reports on #Somalia’s worsening humanitarian situation as the climate crisis, violence and cuts in aid deepen suffering across the country.
This comes against a backdrop of heightened political tension over election delay.

ICC Kenya and UNHCR convened private sector and development leaders in Nairobi to explore investment opportunities in Dadaab Municipality and refugee hosting areas across Kenya, as focus continues shifting toward economic inclusion and shared growth in refugee & host communities.
A friend of mine told me today that there is an outbreak of severe dengue fever in the Dadaab camps.
So tonight, Right after Isha, I went straight into my mosquito net.
Happy National Day Norway🇳🇴

Led these engagements in Riyadh and Jeddah. These weren’t just meetings, they were about unlocking the right partners who are serious about impact.
Special thanks to @_IsmailMaalim for the support and continued commitment.
Last week, we held a series of productive meetings in Saudi Arabia with key partners: King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, Saudi Red Crescent Authority and World Assembly of Muslim Youth.
The delegation, led by PS Ismail Madey, included Prince Abdallah bin Faisal Al Saud, Ahmed bin Ali Al-Baiz, Dr. Taimur Shukrullah, Dr. Saleh Baabid, H.E. Joseph Masila, Deputy Ambassador Dr. Suleiman Ibrahim Roba and Ambassador Adan Mohammed.
Discussions focused on strengthening strategic partnerships, aligning humanitarian priorities and unlocking funding to support the Kenya Red Cross response and recovery efforts.
All three institutions expressed strong interest in collaboration, particularly in emergency response, health support, capacity building, and faith-based (zakat-driven) programming.
Grateful for the shared commitment. Now onto delivery.
You’ve done incredibly well, My childhood friend @MoulidHujale.
You’ve inspired so many of us with lived experiences of displacement.
Wishing you all the best in your next adventure sxb.
After more than three years with #UNHCR, where I worked in communication across Africa, my time there has come to an end as the humanitarian sector faces severe funding cuts.
This work changed how I see communication. It is more than messaging. It is about what gets shown, what gets simplified, and what is left out entirely.
This work is also personal. I experienced displacement at a young age, and it continues to shape my commitment to ensuring #refugees are at the centre of humanitarian storytelling.
I am now returning to the independent media space, focusing on #ethical storytelling and regional analysis around forced displacement and migration.

I held a productive engagement with Geoff Anisman and Alison Moylan, from the U.S Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA).
Our discussions focused on advancing a structured framework for cooperation between the Government of Kenya and ECA, with particular emphasis on cultural heritage preservation, people-to-people exchanges, arts diplomacy, and capacity building for Kenya’s cultural sector.
